I am with you Okie! Low and slow for me. Usually when I am in the bus I am headed to some type of work. I really don't want to get there in a hurry anyways.

I am with you Okie! Low and slow for me. Usually when I am in the bus I am headed to some type of work. I really don't want to get there in a hurry anyways.

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine on a trip in New Mexico said to me, "Hey, if you are in a bus you should not be in a hurry anyway."

And that has kind of stuck with me ... good advice.

With only about a 1' between me and anything stopped, I prefer to give every advantage to my reaction time.

Yeah BCO, Off topic but he screamed those poor things. We had a mechanic that would turn um up and I think he ordered the tallest gear they would put in from Prevost. I wouldn't have bought one from him. He also bought the bottom stainless pieces around coach and doors and rivets by the buckets. Everytime time he would get back in they would pull it in and fix something. I think the biggest problem was that damn scotch. He's passed on now but he was sure good to me. Worked 18 years for him.

Way back in 1970 at Yosemite National Park, the propane powered tram tour tractors had 413 Dodge industrial V8 engines running thru the old MT42 6 speed Allision. All of the drivers had to manually shift the tranny as they had not been set up properly to hold in the correct gear. Easy to do.

Management didn't want to pull the Allisions and revalve them and they were OK with us manually shifting. Top speed towing was 25 mph. We would come down from Mirror Lake in 2nd gear....very slow. Anyhow, long ago and kinda far away. Wish I was 20 again. HB of CJ (old coot)

I'm with Clifford, rarely do I feel the need to override the 740 in our Eagle. She seems right on time.

Engine that can take high rpm's? Cadillac's Northstar was tested at WOT for over 100 consecutive hours. Just watch out for head gasket problems.

No longer feeling "the need for speed" I can relate to what you are saying. There comes a time when you simply tire of replacing items on your coach that high speed and bad road took from you.

Not to mention the expense (Eagle parts are not cheap).

When I was young, I could drive from Oklahoma to the West Coast and pick up enough tickets to wallpaper my garage, but now I am just another pokey Okie in the slow lane.

You guys that don't like to run need to stay out of Texas, El Paso to Junction is 85 mph now TDPS will give 5 mph over there is 90 mph.

For you guys that like the scenery not very much out there to see lol,

I always ran the 80 mph across that part of Texas to the first BBQ place at Junction

I know with my V730, I'm shifting manually all the time. Especially when I'm going up a long grade in first-I shift down to first to get the torque converter to lock up and put out less heat (about 32mph). Good Luck, TomC

I heard they were talking about the 85, Clifford. I can't wait until we are back down that way. Look out. We will be rolling 85 (or wide open). That will be awesome.

Our last trip to Houston, I was actually passed by a garbage truck just outside of Dallas. I looked at my bride and said, "this is so depressing."

Bring it on. Texas is building a highway right now, with tax dollar funding, using a Mexican company and they are going to put 85 mph on it. First one in the nation from what I understand ... high speed toll roads ... what is next a Hawaiian in the Oval office?

Cliff, tis true, my 740 is in a hurry to get to fourth gear and she does it at the expense of acceleration. It's always done that and apparently I'm not alone. In an effort to prevent hours of lugging, I'll downshift if I'm doing 50 on a back road. She seems to like it. On another side note, it doesn't hurt any to downshift when slowing does it? Helps save my brakes
