Was "talking" to the bus today -- Wants to stretch it's legs --- Told me a trip for Memorial Day to Ruidoso NM is in order   8)

Was wondering if there are other "nuts" gonna be in the area or suggestions for things to do and see (I'm sure the ponies should be in the mix)   ::)

Just checkin for ideas and what's up for the holiday weekend --- if not here where are you going???

It will be officially SUMMERTIME  ;D ;D ;D

I don't do Memorial Day, or Labor Day-just to crazy to try to get out of town from L.A.  The first weekend after Labor Day, I'm going up to Shaver Lake, Ca.  Staying at Camp Edison-just a really pleasant place to stay (all sites have electricity and cable T.V. Weird to see tent campers watching TV on outside).  It is just about the closest campsite you can stay in in the Sierra Nevada's without a lot of mountain driving.  After driving on a nice two lane road from Fresno, you go up a long grade (32mph typically), then turn into the forest and about 5 miles of mountain driving.  Unlike Yosemite that is closer to about 40 miles of mountain driving.  Plus you have Shaver Lake-while small is warm to swim and they have boat rentals.  Didn't mean to steal the thread. Good Luck, TomC

Tom
You did not hijack --- that was what I wanted to know --- what people do for random bus trips

The weekend after labor day we go to the Meeker Classic in Meeker CO and we do drive over some mountains for that -- we try to find someplace fun on the way for labor day weekend (Leadville CO is pretty cool)

The last weekend of July we are always in Davenport IA for the Bix Jazz Festival --- Park on the levee by the river.

I guess no one else takes their bus out for fun trips.

Well I wouldn't quite say that! All my buses go out "at least" every weekend. And there all "fun" trips! (at least as long as they all make it home too! LOL)

Hi Melbo,

We don't do holiday weekends either, just too crowded. Two weekends ago we took the bus out for the first time since last October. We only went 68 miles from home and had a rainy weekend. But we enjoyed it anyway. The tornado warning Saturday night caused everyone to seek shelter at the concrete block restroom building so we met some of the other people there. Fortunately no tornado developed and no strong winds either.

We will be attending the Midwest Bus Nuts rally this weekend at Wisconsin Dells, 90 miles from home. There is a car show Saturday and Sunday with 1200 cars expected along with a swap meet. I enjoy visiting with the members, although our rallies have gotten smaller with the high price of fuel. There may be 10 or fewer buses there this year.

Beginning June 3rd we will be leaving on a month long trip. First to Iowa City, Iowa for a medical appointment on the 4th. I participated in a clinical trial at the University of Iowa that helped me tremendously and this is a followup visit. Then sightseeing in south east Iowa for a few days and then toward Dickinson, North Dakota for a visit with my wife's family. We will travel across Iowa and South Dakota to get to Dickinson, stopping wherever we find something interesting. On June 14th we will join the Ramblin' Nodaks chapter of FMCA for a rally at he hosts farm for 4 days and then a rolling rally for 6 days ending in Dickinson. We will start home on July 1st, again, stopping wherever we find something of interest. We look forward to our travels.

Good luck, Sam

We try to get out in the bus several times a year.  My favorite shorty trip is-we go get the bus out of the warehouse and spend the night in the warehouse parking lot on Wednesday.  We leave for where ever on Thurs (typically less then a 400 mi drive) then setup in the afternoon.  Then we have full days of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday-which is especially nice since most weekenders leave on Sunday.  We come back on Monday with no traffic concerns and put the bus in by dinner Monday.  We've done two of those trips this year.

Probably will go to Mammoth Lakes in late July.  We just park in front of our friends cabin (no one bothers us) and run a 15amp cord just to keep the batteries up. Still have to run the genset if it is too hot in the afternoon and to run the water heaters.

After our Sept Shaver Lake, we'll do one more long weekend of somewhere in Oct. Then maybe to Las Vegas in early Dec (no heat) to see Christmas decorations at the casinos.  I don't care about the price of Diesel Fuel-we're using our bus, doggonnit!  Good Luck, TomCr

Use to Ski  in Ruidoso back in the day. Beautiful place. Watch out for those Indian Folks at The Inn Of the Mountain Gods Casino, those boys will scalp you. Me and my Lady are fixing to pull out (today at noon) and head to Surfside Beach down Galveston Tx. way.
Take Care.

Actually the older ones (the S215's & S217's) had a "towbar" mounted in the rear luggage bays just in case!

But since they were never used much and everyone always asked "what is that, and why is it there?"

They quit putting them there the S417's do have a hidden pull pin located behind the front & rear bumpers. (but they never get used either!)
