My 8v71 is ready to reinstall in MC-5B bus, after having done a lot of work to motor. While running on shop floor with the use of a barrel filed with water. Today I warmed engine and drained water off four locations on engine that I had left when first setting up hoses /drains/ water barrel /etc. I went around engine while it was running(about160 degrees) about three times until water coming out drains was nice and clear. No more light brown color. Is there anything else I can do or should do before disconnecting barrel and temporary hoses to ensure engine inside is as clean as possible?   Thanks Larry B

I can't think of anything.  Just fill it with 50% distilled water and 50% Prestone antifreeze/coolant (green stuff).  No need to get fancy with the antifreeze on a 71 series since it has dry liners that make the antifreeze/coolant work directly on the cast iron block-rather then like the 92 series (and all other big engine) that have the antifreeze/coolant touching directly to the cylinder liners.  Good Luck, TomC

Shouldnt you be checking your PH level too?

On initial fill with distilled water, ph should be close to zero.  Good Luck, TomC

were i in your position (new motor) with your concern I think I might just go get 50 gallons of distilled water and reflush it, that might give you total peace of mind....you'd be out maybe another 50$ for the additional DW.
add another 17 gallons of DW and 17 gallons of AF and go....or whatver your system takes.

me i'd just fill it and go.... ;D

Floss??     ;)   I think you probably have it flushed well, but once more with clear water can't hurt.  Then antifreeze and water and ou should be all set!

We are almost neighbours.......only Saskatchewan in the way. If you want to take that new engine out for a nice long run, we have a nice spot only a couple miles out of Brandon along #1 Highway  with 50amps, good water and high-speed internet too!

Regards.

I wouldn't waste my time with another flush. Fill it and go.
