LP line to gen set

Not to steel Or conv  thread  Question:I'm running lp gen set in new coach was going to run copper. Is what was on tank when I got it from PO. Should I reconsider? If so What?  6ft involved.seperate compartments.     Gen set is done deal as is tank!I am happy with choice.    Bob

Bob, my factory unit has a cloth covered hose marked for propane only going to the gen set

Bob, I just posted on the other thread about rubber hose and the need to be sure to get a hose assembly that is rated for propane.  That done, you can feel safe from a delivery standpoint.  I also talked about using a propane detector ***with*** a solenoid valve.

You can run either copper or black iron pipe to the gen compartment, but then you need a propane rated hose with at least a 300psi rating to the engine for vibration purposes.  Propane will be at about the same pressure as the outside temperature (F).  So on a 100 degree day, the propane will be at about 100psi.  Always good to have a double the need rated hose.  I don't know if small gensets run on vapor or liquid.  I know on larger engines-like in fork lifts, and cars, the propane is extracted off the bottom of the tank in liquid form then vaporized at the engine.  Just to make sure you have the right propane tank. A few points,
1-LP Tank Pressure can get up in the 250 psi ++ range, there is a temperature issue, in direct sun, it will go into the pressure release mode and hiss/vent. DO NOT over fill the 80% point.
2-You can run the liquid if the generator has the vaporizer, even if it does, most folks find running the high pressure vapor is preferred, the oil in the bottom of the tank will sooner or later gum up the vaporizer, causing it to not work .  Of course this only happens when you really need it.
3-Use the braided hose or the plastic hose certified for propane/LP Gas, the solid copper line will sooner or later develop a leak

What else  I found out. Flex  Line must be non conductive. no stainless or wire braided.   code is NFPA 501C  For info only   Flex part of line is per mfg and is requirement for installation in My application.  Bob

This is why it was recommended using the APPROVED hose for LP Gas.  The approved hose will have the approval clearly marked on the hose about every foot.

Found one that was suppose to be approved but was stainless braided.  Checked my install book and it said use nonconducting only. So have both regulators both shut offs Excessive flow/and leak-detect shut off.  good to go. My lesson for the day.  11 inch water column  67 cubic ft per hr Max   Bob
