Seems that Tom was the only responder to offer any real information among all these posts.  What happened to just answering the question?  I will rephrase the question:
Do the owners of (any brand) of macerating toilets find that they are worth the extra cost and do they stand up maintenance wise?  My other bus has a Microphor electric flush and the only issue in 5 years is the bowl seal ring drying out and leaking which I remedy by spraying with silicone.  The Silverside I am building will have a straight drop down to a 200 gal. combination black/gray tank, but in order to achieve the 200 gal. it will have to have an upper ledge in the tank and I am concerned about solids accumulating there.  Thinking that macerating the waste will eliminate a potential problem.

Boomer, my little attempt at humor was meant to kind of point that out, too.  I have no experience but I did note over several years of reading boards that people swear by or swear at plain gravity type toilets.  In my case, it's not much of a question since my toilet is going "upstairs" and a straight gravity drop wouldn't work.  So, I'm going with a mascerator (it should be wired in and working in the next few weeks).  But that's "my way" to fit my particular bus and probably isn't a lot of help to anyone else.

I did find (via Google) where some people had been discussing the Tecma toilet.  One noted that he had had a lot of debris in his feed water line and that plugged up the internal filter on the toilet (not the fault of the toilet and easily fixed); another had an installation problem, also easily fixed.  So, it appears that there aren't any large number of on-going problems with them and the few people who reported issues for any reason seemed to have no problem with rectification or repair.

(PS I've lost my receipt but my masc. toilet is a Raritan "Atlantes" and I think it was about the same price as the $950 which seems to be the best price for the Tecma.)

Can it be assumed that a macerating toilet wont work without electrical power??

TomC

Dometic macerator toilets need a 12v 20amp circuit.  Thetfords need a 12v 40amp circuit.  Since they use an electric motor to grind and pump, electricity is needed.  The toilets are offered in 12v, 24v, 32v, 48vdc and 120vac, 240vac and European 220vac.  But you need electricity.  Nothing more reliable then a good old gravity flush.  Good Luck, TomC

Actually I think Bruce was on to something here. I think it would be good to have a section for "converters faq" or something similar, where the questions that get asked and answered over and over and over can become part of a sticky list or something. maybe a technical "how to" section?
