Anybody done it recently in a bus going from Idaho to Jackson Hole Wyoming? How was it?

It's really steep,,, without jakes it could be scary coming down either side. Take it slow and easy you'll be fine. Right at the bottom of the Jackson side is a 25 MPH zone.

No Jakes, so i think we will go the long way around to get there. :)

Take the truck route around-still a nice drive-but without the white knuckle factor.  Good Luck, TomC

So what is the truck route Tom?

Take Hwy 26 thru Swan valley then north back up to Jackson on Hwy 89.

We went that way in August with two friends, we had no problems our rig has a transmission retarder but no jake brake, both of our friends cooked their brakes and had a scary ride down, both of them were going to fast at the top of the pass. The speed signs are not suggestions on this hill, you see a 20 mph sign, it means 20 mph if you are driving a bus or a heavy truck.
As mentioned by skihor Hwy 26 is much easier on the brakes and the nerves.

Wheezy bus did it without a problem. Remember your driving a bus not a BMW and you will find the view worth it.

If you are talking about Hwy 22, I did that westbound to Idaho back in 2005.  It was the steepest climb I've ever done in the Eagle.  I really thought the bus wasn't going to make the climb, so I unhooked my towed and let my wife follow.  I had a tub of spaghetti fly out of my refrigerator on that road.   I wouldn't do it again.  The decent to Idaho wasn't bad, so since you are going the other way.  Be prepared once over the top.  It was a pretty drive, but I was so nervous about my laboring 6v92 and 3.36 rear end that I couldn't enjoy it.

Hello Ed,

I went over Teton pass last month in my 4106 towing my Wrangler with no problems. Clifford just finished installing my Jakes the week before I left. as others have stated--- I'm not interested in going over that road in either direction without Jakes. It was a beautiful drive other than the severity of the grades.

Where are you heading now? I hope you're not looking for winter work in Jackson WY.

We came thru Yellowstone and down thru Grand Teton. We were close to Yellowstone anyway as we had spent a few days there and it looked to be shorter than going down to 26 and back up. Did drive the jeep up to the top of 22 just to see how it was, and was really glad we did not try it in the bus!!! ;D  Mike, i did call around about work, just to satisfy the unemployment office,....nobody is hiring, the work season is just about over. They are doing a big road project on 26/287 going towards Dubois, i talked to a flagman up there and he said they had been working on it for 5 years and still had 2 years to go. Gonna have to shut down for winter pretty quick. They are having high/record temps here the last day or two.  Hit it just right to see the trees turning, very pretty area! Headed farther south in a couple of days, might just be stopping in later on at St. George on our way. ;D

Hey ED;

We made two summer trips to the Yellowstone area this summer. It certainly is beautiful.

I guess, unless you are a well driller or pipeline contractor , the work has dried up already for the season.

I'll never buy you a cup of coffee again if you come southbound on I-15 through Utah and don't let us know you're coming. Plenty of room on the front yard for your MCI. plan on visiting a few days.

Ed -

Just checked this thread. . . dang, I wish I knew you were going to be in the Jackson Hole area.  I have a really good friend that I've known since 1967 that lives just outside JH near Wilson on the road to Teton Village.  You probably could have boondocked in her driveway while you were in the area, as she has about an acre.  Chris is a breast cancer survivor, and a really great gal.  Been a wonderful friend over the years. . .

Maybe next time?

Oh No!!! Looks like you won't be buying me any coffee Mike! :(  Little to no internet connection for the last couple of days, did not see your post till now. We are at St. George right now for 3 nites. Got in a couple of hours ago. After 5-6 days of dry camping on limited water supply, ( who forgot to fill the tank completely at the last rv park we stayed at????)  We really wanted a shower and laundry facilities. ;D  Do appreciate your offer though.  RJ, I have a friend that i met in Yuma a few years ago and see every time  we are there. I know he lives in Wyoming and i have his card. Meant to look at it while we were there and see what part of the state he is in.....turns out it is Jackson. He won't be happy with me when he finds out we were nearby for 4 days. :(
