We are looking at going to get our bus 10/10. That is in Ogallala Neb. We have been on 80 to 84 going west to get to Boise. Lots of good (bad) long pulls in high country. Is 30 from Little America to 15  to Pocatello better? It's going to start to get a lot colder now that fall is in the air. We are a little concerned about going over the high passes this time of year without a defrost.
Any recommendations on RV parks along the way?
Thanks for any Help

I take 80 out of Nebraska through Wyoming all the time usually with a trailer.  No issues for me, but I have a Series 60 with a good functional cooling system.  In fact, we are headed that way tomorrow evening in my bus.  We'll be in Wyoming sometime Wednesday.

I drove 30 from Pocatello Id through Soda Springs, Montpelier Kemmerer Wy to Little America lots of times in the winter very nice this time of of the year plenty to see along the way not many summits on that route

One thing I didn't like was the Caribou County Sheriffs Dept seems like I got a ticket every time I traveled that route at Bear Lake lol it is slower to reach 80 that way but a nice drive and plenty of RV parks and free parking

good luck

Stop in Kemmerer that is a neat town home of JC Penny your hard climbs are going to be on 80 from Rock Spring I hated going over Elk Mountain snows there in Aug lol I tried the alt route one time and would not recommend that in Sept.
Soda Springs is neat I would stop over in Lava Hot Springs and soak in the nice hot water.
We travel 30 I get off at Bliss and hit 84 again at Burley I like the Hagerman Valley with all the water falls nice part of Idaho

good luck

Not an RV place. We run a truck driving training school. We mostly train Halliburton new hires how to drive/operate semi trucks. Anyway we would love to meet new bus nuts, trade fishing lies, show you our 5 second 1/4 mile MC5A... ;D. We could park someone for an overnight. Or Lunch, dinner.....
I have a 12V portable macerator if you need to dump, water, at least 20 amp, maybe more depending. There is a KOA nearby, and LOTS of dry camping on the Flaming River Gorge.

Busted Knuckle

When I was trucking I used to run across Hwy 30 ALL the time verses 80-15-84 for 2 reasons

One was to avoid UTAH and the other was I loved the view and drive across 30.

I also ran 30 when I had loads going into and out of Logan, UT again one to avoid UT scales and because I loved the views! (Especially dropping down onto Bear Lake from the UT side AWESOME view of the lake from the scenic view pull out on top of the hill!)
;D  BK  ;D

OH yeah the "Ranch Hand Truck Stop" in Montpelier, ID used to be an awesome place to stop for a meal! But that's been over 10 yrs.

OK so it's not going to happen this week. engine is still not done. Starting to get a little on the panic side. I really don't wont to go over the mountins in cold weather. Bays are not heated or insulated and have no defrost. Hope and pray to leave on 10/15/11. This week in Idaho we had snow @ 5500'. So old man winter is coming fast. The Waite is making me even more crazy than buying the bus. :-\

Snowing here in Rock Springs too. Not quite cold enough for any real accumulation tho. It will be warming up next week, not to worry. Wolf Creek ski area in Colorado has got over three feet in this storm...

Didn't realize we were that close to you folks.  We came by Rock Springs yesterday in the snow.  I was glad to get it behind us during daylight because that stuff and a cold night can be a bad combination.
