Would actually be intresting to break it down part by part and see percentage of parts and where they came from. I never really considered Canada a foreign trade competitor,but a friendly neighbor.  Bob

Name only Bob same there as here it owned by others,I was looking at a new H-45 at Arrow on Mon that bus had parts from all over the world Germany, India,China,Mexico,US and Brazil don't remember seeing anything except the ID said made in Canada, won't be long till you guys catch us LOL

  We cant even make a simple shovel in this Country. Ames Manufacturing is/was, the oldest "American" company. Before 1776, at some point the King of England told the Colonists they had to use shovels made of wood, or buy steel shovels from England. The penalty for making a steel shovel over here is reportedly to have been drawn and quartered.

 So Ames said to heck with it and started making steel shovels in around 1774 or 5. Ya'll probably have one out in your garden shed. Weeeeel, between higher labor from Unions, stricter federal regulations, having OSHA and EPA jerks walking in and finding faults, stopping production whenever they felt like, being sued endlessly for liability disputes, and being taxed heavily, they sold out. Now the Company is partly Chinese owned, and the majority of their products are made in China.

 But heres the kicker. China dont have Oak or Hickory trees AFAIK. And ya'll know too, that China OWNS the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota, and they now ship OUR raw natural resources, Iron, to China. Then they make you a shovel. With the wood we sold them. And our Iron we sold them. Okay, GAVE them.

 Ya know though, they use a LOT of Electricity over there in China manufacturing stuff for us out of our stuff. And primariliy they use Coal power. And wouldnt ya know, we can sell them OUR Coal pretty cheap, so while were digging up Wyoming and turning it into an environmental disaster, a good chunk is going to China. To make Electricity. So they can make steel out of OUR Iron. And cut up the wood we sold them. And make shovels to sell us using the name of an American Revolutionary Patriot. They do have Coal, but their keeping theirs while they burn ours up. Death by attrition?

 Guys, were the problem. We hold our hand out to companies to pay us exorbitant wages, and when we dont get our way we shut them down. We sue them when we get hurt, which in 99% of the cases is our own damn fault. We whine to our Legislators for safe work places and a clean environment, further tying the hands of those in business behind their backs with increasingly rediculous regulations. And then to add insult, we want them to pay a greater percentage of their income in profits.

 Small aircraft rely on vacuum powered gyros to provide flight information in clouds, when you cannot see the ground. There were three manufacturers a while back, now there is only one. You see, every time an aircraft crashes, Lawyers sue EVERY manufacturer of every part on the plane. Doesnt matter if they had anything to do with it, they still have to appear in court. And they need a Lawyer. So even if they win, it costs about $100K. When the last one goes out of business, then what? Many companies that started out making aircraft parts have turned to the medical field, because the insurance costs of making aircraft parts have become so prohibitive.

 Blame China all you want, we did this to ourselves. We have the Chinese and Mexicans doing our work for us, and were surprised were going in the tank??

 The Chinese have a 200,000,000 man Army, just like Revelation spoke of 2000 years ago. They have high tech submarines, diesel electric but with high tech batteries that can keep them down a month or more. Lithium Ion? Something far better? And they are QUIET. Touch screen computer screens. Rubber isolated and sound proofed floors and walls. Twice now, they have snuck up and surfaced within two miles of our Aircraft Carriers, completely undetected. They will be the next superpower if we dont soon pull our heads out of our _____.

There is some stuff that is almost impossible to find Made in the USA for.  I would probably just forget about buying the item eventually if I couldn't accept a Chinese version of the item.

I try to buy made in the USA, but there are cases where I simply can't justify the cost.  I have literally seen hand tools that cost $15 if one wants the China version and $75 for the made in the USA version.  The made in the USA is better quality, but does it matter if I plan to use the tool once or twice?  If I used it every day the USA made one would be the way to go.

  I dont know. I go to the hardware store, everything is China. I go to O' Rielly to buy parts for the Jeep, or the Ford, its all China. If I go to the dealer, they want three or four times more for basic parts than Mercedes Benz, and that is not a joke, its the truth. And if I bought from the dealer nothings made here anyway. Its Candian, Mexican, Argentina, Pakistan... Even these Detroits, all the junk on Ebay is chinese crap. All the cylinder kits online are chinese. Might be okayish made but, cant we make this stuff??

  I'll go out of my way not to buy Chinese stuff or go without. Ill buy used first. garage sales, pawn shops, junk yards. The Jeep needs another POC wheel bearing. It was used when I bought the Jeep, so another used one it is.

  I recently took apart an electric motor that had a made in the USA sticker because it had a bad bearing. And where was the bearing in this USA made motor, made? China. I honestly wonder if the whole motor wasnt actually China made, repackaged into another box, stickered, and sold as Domestic made. How could you tell?

Paul, people buy the China made crap for the DD, FM has some kits not made in China and if you ever need one it gets back to what Belfert said a kit from DD for a 8v71 will cost you over 500 bucks each now you know the famous M/B prices lol aftermarkets are 200 +or -

  Did the DD parts go up after Mercedes bought them? Ive owned half a dozen Mercs, all diesels except for an SL Roadster. I was always surprised how inexpensive parts were from the dealer, at least until you got into major engine parts. Then you better be sittin down, lol.

  $400 a hole is what Luke quoted me when I asked what they ran last year. But I didnt ask who made em cuz I didnt think China did. I keep forgeting they make everything now, lol. Some day theyll turn the Statue of Liberty upside down and it will say made in China.

  You know they renamed a city in China Usa? So now they can make things and legally print made in USA on them. Lot of knives coming in that say that on the blade shank.

Parts went through the roof when MTU took control of DD you could not buy parts for a week while they were changing prices 400 sound about right for a DD piston kit a year ago.
Luke used DD parts on Bob of the North engine a couple of years back I saw the box when Bob posted a photo while in his shop
