Accuracy of MC8 Hubometer

How accurate is the hubometer on a bus --- My MC8 did not have a speedo when I got it and I just used the hubometer to check my mileage.  Sometimes I would do good and other times I would do BAD. No rhyme or reason to what was what.

I put in a speedo and checked it against the GPS and it is off by less than 5% so I just filled up and my hubometer was less than HALF what the speedo read.

Other times when I was on the road the hub and speedo seemed to be pretty close

Kind of confusing but then sometimes I can be EASILY confused.

Wondering what experience others have had with the hub and speedo readings.

Mel, if the hub-odometer is the right rpm for the vehicle they are pretty accurate but the mechanical type can go bad and electronic type needs batteries from time to time a new one costs around 40 bucks if you want to replace your

good luck

Thanks

I probably don't need one anymore with the speedo that has a trip meter and odometer but as a habit when I fill up I write down the hub reading the speedo reading and the hours on the genny so I can figure out what consumed the fuel.

Doesn't make the fuel any cheaper and doesn't make any difference in where it went BUT it gives me a chance to do some mental gymnastics and something to think about lying in bed at night.

Probably a broken tooth in the gears somewhere that doesn't engage all the time but catches just often enough to keep me confused.

hubometers work great until they don't.

They have to stay in the bottom, once they start irregularly spinning around with the tire, it's over.

happy coaching!
