'92 MCI 102-C3 Speed sensing wire

Hello,

I recently rebuilt the dash and replaced wiring, all works except one item which is the speedometer.  This is due to a missing wiring, which I can not seem to find.  All wiring was pulled out into the drivers electrical panel to sort out what was required and no longer required.

The plan worked well, except search and search and I can't find the relating cable, however I do not know the number of it either.  Has anyone else had experience with this sending wire, know the number or source within the drivers panel?

Should be able to follow the wires straight up from the left front wheel to the speedometer!

I used to have several as MCI used to sell a speedo kit that had the speedo, wiring, and sensor all in one box for repairing or installing speedos in older MCI's.

But several yrs ago I tried to order a customer a kit, and MCI said they no longer sold them.
(I ended up using all my spare parts between that bus and several since then.)

Thanks for the info, checked both front tires and each have a wire but I believe this is for the ABS, no additional wire found.  Would this be on the tranny itself, there is a connection at the tail end of the tranny however the wires were coated with road grime, making them difficult to distinquish.

Call MCI with your coach model and serial no. They'll tell you what you need.

While I agree with JC on calling MCI tech support and asking them. (have last 5 of your VIN handy when you call!)

I still believe that your '92 C model should have a sensor mounted next to the out side edge of the left front brake drum that picks up on the 4 bolts on the drum itself.

I could be wrong.
Once I thought I was wrong, but it turned out, I was mistaken!

OK I was working on a '93 MCI 102 C3 tonight and  just to satisfy my curiosity I scooted over to look under the left front wheel and there it was the speed sensor mounted on a little bracket not far from the arm the "drag-link" (bar that runs from side to side) hooks to.

I was however incorrect on the number of bolts in the hub though. Seems that by the time the C models came around they were using 8 bolts in the hub to be picked up by the sensor.

Hi BK,

I appreciate you checking into this, this coach has a sensor on each front wheel, with only one sensor and cable in the front center of the rotor.  This looks like a pick up sensor as you mentioned, however located on both front wheels in the same position, wired to the middle and then up into the coach.  However, the wiring assembly runs into the section where the main floor is covering the wiring.

Therefore not sure on the speed cable as the wiring has a protective sleeve over the wiring assembly also.

I agree with JC on calling MCI, however like to see if I can solve first, as it's a private custom coach for a reason;) 

If you have any thoughts please send along, I'll keep checking while working on other components to see if this can't be found, thanks.

Chad you said rotor. Does your bus have disc brakes on the front?

I wasn't aware of MCI using disc that early. But if you do have disc  than it is a different animal than I am familiar with.

Now that you mention it I didn't realize they were using ABS in '92 either.

Sorry but sound like you have a coach that has been "modified" or  "custom ordered".

That said I would definettly be on the phone w/MCI finding out what it came with ans figuring out just what is what.  MCI doesn't care if it's still in revenue service, a private coach or a conversion in progress, or what. It is in their best interest to help you properly maintain it so that you both are protected in the event of an accident &/or lawsuit later down the road.

I agree with BK. Call MCI. You have a nice setup if you have discs and abs. Ours is a 95 DL3, and we have neither.

With what you and John have mentioned, sounds like this adds a bit of custom to the coach, which MCI should be able to help with, much appreciate the insight on this.  Learning more about this coach is always nice, I like the setup and just maybe this is why;)

Chad that is cool. I have a '95 Setra S217 with the same set up. I love the front disc on it they work great. But that said keep a good eye on the rotor and physically remove the wheels occasionally and inspect the rotors! Those big bad boys have habit of cracking. (at least the ones on ours do)

Now my '05 Setra's with disc all the way around are AWESOME! Those bad boys will stop fast!

My guess is that yes with the disc brakes you will have a cable come from the transmission a short distance (between 1-3 feet) and then go into a "speed signal generator" and will come out as wires headed up to the front for the speedo! (for lack of better description I called it what Setra does)

Hi BK, I think so too;)

Much appreciate your insight on the rotors and related care, this will come in handy for sure.  Just finished a coolant flush and cleaning up a few oil leaks.  Coach is feeling much better now:)  I'll be back on to the speedometer shortly following and will update the findings.
