I have a part time driver who also works for a small local University. (he and his wife both)

Anyway about a yr an a half to 2 yrs ago someone in the Atlanta, GA area donated an '84 Eagle model 10 to the University. And for the first yr the A/C worked great.
But it quit working properly and he's had several places look at it and still all it does is blow hot air even when turned off!

He called me this afternoon and asked if I could maybe look @ it for them. I told him I'm by far no A/C technician and he'd be better off taking it to Lamar Welch @ Welch Industries in Atlanta. (which is when he told me that Atlanta is where the was donated from)

Seems that they don't have a lot of $ to invest in it and they hate to take it all the way to Atlanta and spend mega $ on it.

So I told him that if I can get a schematic for it I would be happy to volunteer dad & I to look it over with no promises.

He said they would be grateful if I could at least tell them if it's worth fixing or not. He said that they are really hurting because the school cut the Athletics Dept by a hundred thousand dollars this year and he's hoping to save them $ by using the old Eagle to haul teams & save them $ and also not have tired coaches hauling the teams in 15 passenger vans to & from games!

Who knows if it's not feasible to repair it I may be able to find them a buyer for it and help them find a better bus for their needs.

If you find out what is wrong with the ac let me know. I am getting ready to remove/scrap it from my bus. If there is anything they can use off of mine they can have it for scrap value (if any) and shipping.

Eric,
Thanks for the offer, I know I appreciate it and am sure they will too!
I will have to wait and see if I can get schematics so I can get dads help checking it out.

By the way where in IN are you located?

I grew up in Indy/Speedway and am going to be coming up the 20th to pic up some old HS friends and take a bus load of us out to Verizon Park for the Kid Rock concert.

I am 1/2 hour north of Anderson. I am just west (5 miles) of exit 45 on I 69.

I will be going to Madison IN on the 13th if it helps get parts to you. Its in south east IN.

Arent you from the evansville IN area, just across the state line?

No Eric, Bob Glines & Duane MC8 Tin Tent are in the E'ville area. I'm 3.5 hrs south of them in West TN 1/2 way between Nashville & Memphis 15 mins off I-40

I will have to see if I can get any idea what is going on with Dee's Eagle and what he might need before I can make any arrangements.

Still hoping for someone to have schematics that will give us a place to start.

BK, I am a little lost as to what you need.  I have an Eagle Maintenance Manual for an '85 10.  The AC section is section 13 and does not seem to me to be all that detailed (at least at first glance).

When you say schematic, are you talking the electrical side of the AC or the plumbing side of the AC.?

Maybe if you can give us some symptoms we might help you narrow it down a bit.  For example, does the compressor rotate and do the fans operate properly (sounds like they blow air, but can't be shut off?).

If the system seems to function, but there is no cold air, the most likely fault is low freon charge.  This would be especially true if the loss of AC was gradual.  If it was abrupt, then it is likely a component problem.  The same compressor supplies both the driver AC and the coach AC - are they both not supplying cold air?

The manual says that the system is charged with R-500.  I suspect that the system has been converted to something else since it left the factory.

The receiver has a sight glass and if the electric part of the system seems to work, that would be the first thing I would check with compressor running.

You will probably need a set of gauges.  The issue will be what connections the system has (not sure what they used for R-500).

The manual is in an HTML format, and I can't see an obvious way to send you the section.  They do have a reasonable trouble shooting section.  I can't find an easy way to copy and paste the text, but it does look like I could create a series of gif documents.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Hey Jim,
Thanks for the reply. I do have "general" knowledge of A/C systems and can usually make them work pretty good if it's on the compressor/plumbing side. I'm familiar with charging discharging, drawing vacuum, changing filters, expansion valves & etc.

It's the electrical side that tosses me under the moving bus, and dad won't even start to trouble shoot the electrical sides with out a schematic (& he's our electrical guru here, but as he says when working on something unfamiliar there is no where to start with out a diagram or preferable schematics to show him what should have what where)

I really don't know the exact symptoms other than what Dee told me when he asked me to look at it and it's 35-40 miles away on the college campus where he & his wife live.
I haven't asked him to bring it by yet because I was looking to get some idea where to start for dad on the electric side while I check freon, filters and etc.

I don't really have any suggestions on how to copy and send me the needed section as I am again technology challenged but if you can put a wrench on it I can figure out what it take s to fix it! LOL!

BK, I don't believe out of the 2000+ model 10's built from 1980 to 1987 any have the same AC setup some are like a model 05 and some like a model 15 then you have the ones in between that went to the metro areas they are a PITA if you can get me a serial number I try and find you something on it fwiw if he has the shaft driven compressor I have a new rebuilt one from Carrier I'll donate to the people uses 134a

good luck

Clifford,
Thanks for the info I'll call him and see if I can get the serial / VIN in the morning. It maybe a few days as I know he's in Detroit on a charter right now.

Van

Bryce, there might be a schematic layout riveted to the inside cover of the rear electrical panel. I got that cover w/layout in the shop, I'll see if I can take some good pix of it and post it here if that helps ya out  ;)

BK, as Clifford mentioned, Eagle was not all that consistent on their system.

My Eagle was made for Huston Metro and seems to have relay/fuse panels that are different from the manual.

The Eagle manual presents the electrical systems two ways.  First are the classical wiring diagrams.  Second is a verbal presentation of each circuit with circuit/wire numbers.  That is several pages and probably not easy to copy for you.

Van's approach might be the best.

I think my manual is on a CD/DVD (have it on my computer for use when we are traveling).  I think I can find the CD/DVD and loan it to you if you need it.

Van did a good job but that one is not going to do BK much good unless he has the hydraulic set up and a model 15 totally different from a 05 or 10

good luck
