Sticking Throttle?

OK,

So I have my fix-it list for inspection down to the stuff I need to pay the shop for, the speedometer fix, and the sticking throttle.

I thought if I lubed everything up, I would be good--NOT!!
I took the ends off the throttle cable at the accelerator and back at the engine.  The connection at the accelerator pedal seemed to be good, but back at the engine it was a little rusty-so I sanded and lubed.  I lubed the front and rear sections and reassembled.  when I checked it, it still seemed to stick a little--not quite as bad as it did, but still not enough to return to idle.

So I disassembled again, and this time I consulted 'da Book'.  I thought after unhooking everything I should be able to pull the cable (spiral wound thingy) out with my hand, but it feels like it can move about 1/16" and it hangs up hard, but feels mechanical, not like it is just encountering resistance.  Reading the book, it says you can pull the whole cable out, so now I am confused.  I don't want to yank on it, if there is some kind of belcrank relay in the middle of the bus at the steps.  I guess my fear is that it has worn thru somewhere and the spiral part on the outside is hanging up in that hole.

Any idea how much force should be necessary to pull the cable out with nothing attached?

Steve, the only way we could get the throttle cable out of our 4104 was to pull it out with a fork lift!!

Once out and cleaned up and well greased it went right back in.  But, later on I installed an air throttle - much nicer!

I think I will wait till tomorrow to try that--Maybe I won't need a forklift--just a 4WD Jeep!
