I keep running into specs such as accuracy, etc.   I have no experience with this and I don't know what features to look for nor their application.  I will have a GPS system on the LapTop in the RV and I suspect that being able to hook them together to download info might be useful but, still, I am not sure.

Thanks,

John

It depends on how well you like her........if you do, then you want one that has the return function on it so she can find her way back.  If not, well then.......... ;D

My wife uses an app called Cardio Trainer on her Android phone. It has several features she really likes.

The one I have works great but the wife got tired of sharing the leash with our little dog, Snuggles. For her anniversary I bought Snuggles a new leash and now Kris doesn't have to share but I get tired of untangling them all the time!

Well I sprang for a Magellan Road Mate 1470.  Barely tote-able but it will work in her car as well so two birds, maybe.  Big touch screen. Thanks anyway.

John. my lady also uses that cardio info but has a separate system that she wears to get it.  Thanks for the info, nice to get all the functions in one device.  Maybe when we replace our phones the next time.

Accuracy is only as good as the DOD allows. the DOD owns and operates the GPS satelites, and if any threat were presumed, your GPS will be worthless with the flip of a switch over at the Pentagon.

I really prefer knowing where I am on a map, and finding my position on a map without a GPS, and only using the GPS as a backup.

Though the feature known as "selective availability" that allows the military to dial back civilian GPS accuracy still technically exists, it has been official policy for a long while now that this will not ever be used.  Now that there are FAA-approved GPS-guided instrument landing approaches for airports, degrading the signal intentionally is never going to happen unless we are in the midst of World War III and the satellites themselves are being attacked.

That said...  It always always always is wise to have some systems redundancy.  Current paper maps are great, and old ones make for fabulous wrapping paper during the holidays.
