Long term storage of WVO

If a guy was busy working on his bus conversion, is it possible, or advisable to start collecting wvo for eventual use as alternative fuel? Should it be processed now, or later when it's use is imminent? I'm thinking I'm a year, maybe 18 months from using my bus.

I have some dismal experience in that area.  Mine "soured" and I even used that anti bacterial additive.  And mine was in 55 gallon steel drums sealed tight.  Dewater it and filter it and add anti bac stuff and store in steel.  Mine was not dewatered or filtered.  Voice of experience here.  VO from the store will last a long long time in storage without air exposure....shelf life.  Ever see a label that says "use before" on cooking oil?  Had they EVER been sued on that issue the label would be marked so given the litigious aspect of our society I surmise the stuff lasts a good long while on the shelf.

I had 400 gallons og oil sit at Gary Labombards (sp) house for 4 or 5 years it sat for a few more years elsewhere before it was given to me. When I picked it up a year ago it was amazingly clean. Same with some that I had stored in Il. for several years.

Food chunks will cause oil to go rancid, otherwise it should keep a fery long time with no issues.

I have always read to filter, dewater and store in PLASTIC barrels. In fact I have read to never store it in steel..........

You would not want to store in steel if stored outside. It will condensate and fill with water. It will eventually rust out the bottom. We throw away allot of 55gal drums of new oil at work because of this. Now we try to just buy 5gal buckets unless filling large reservoirs. We never try to store it by the equipment anymore.
