OK I have a 91 Setra S215 with a great running 8V92 DDEC in it.
Yesterday I received a call from a fellow bus company owner that needs a good 8V92 asking me if I had one for sale or knew where one could be found.

Now the bus that the engine is in runs and drives but does have some other problems for which we don't use it in service.

I did drive it to Ft. Walton Beach and back last April without any trouble at all!

My question is what is a reasonable price for this engine? It does smoke on start up & idling, but once out on the road it clears up and runs clean & strong!

Clifford? Anyone? I'm not asking for anything in stone, just an idea of what a reasonable take out 8V92 DDEC engine should be worth.
I'd really much rather sell the whole bus for about $10,000 but would be open to offers.

if I felt I could get 100,000  miles  out of it I would pay 55 to 65 hundred another 1500 to 2 grand for a good extra trans. Extra diff at least a grand. or sell engine keep bus and convert it for BK with 4 stroke. others will have opinion's but I know the situation and his other engine is pretty well broken all over(nothing salvageable)holes in bad places.  Bob

If it helps, here's an 8V story.

About a year ago, on a trade deal I ended up with a perfect 8V-71 NA,  in a truck.

The engine couldn't be FORCED to smoke or drip, one looker tried for half a day to do just that. It would have made a great spare engine but I already had one in mothballs that was just as good, so I decided to sell while it was together and could be ran.

Chicago area, I advertised it "hear run" for $2500, no takers. After a few months I took $1800 on an "as-is" quick deal from the only serious prospect I had.

Good Luck

BK, that is a tuff one I bought a DDEC lV 8v92 for a friend from American Truck in Phoenix low mileage 50,000 came from ASP in Phoenix and paid 5 grand for it and thought it was a great deal and got to keep the old engine.
Parts are high for those engines example a new standard crank from WW Williams cost 4700 dollars injectors are 200 bucks each for the rebuilt, good turbos are worth 500 ea.
DD liner and piston kit are 480 dollars each now and and the list goes on my friend and the series of DDEC runs the cost up also not much demand for 1.
Your are going to have to set the price but a good 8v92 MUI will bring you 5 grand you know the song you get what you pay for lol fwiw if you rebuild a 8v92TA right it will cost from 14,000 to 15,000

good luck

I would not pay more than core prices for the engine without pulling the pan and inspecting the block webbing for cracks first.

With out a model number hard to say what it came from you can tell it is not a truck engine probably military or industrial, change the bell housing would make a nice fit for a Eagle

good luck

Bryce, who is going to pull the engine. What will that cost you if you do it. I would start at $6,500. and see what they say.

I'd also ask what the bus is worth with and without an engine.  Probably without, scrap or part out value.  I'd look for the difference plus the cost of pulling it out, anyway.  why not sell him the bus and let him worry about it?

I know both parties involved here. A 1990 prevost Le Mirage in revenue service with a broke motor. Good bus otherwise. A another friend with a bus that has issues but a good motor. So it is tough for both. Scrap the 90 Prevost or stick another 8 to 10 grand in it and try to make money with it.(he spent 18 grand at Clarke (detroit) for engine 2 yrs ago. Both buses have positive features and for a home converter would offer opportunities . I would think BK's bus runnin with good drive train would be worth 10grand to a converter?   Opinion are like well ya know!  bob
