Finding a inexpensive Generator

Thought I might share where my last four Gen Sets came from #1 15kw gas onan side of road for sale $300 was still running when I old bus 5 yrs later #2 wrecked motorhome bought the whole thing for $2000 used all tanks pumps cabinets Air Con tv's micro and all to convert schoolie for neighbor. #3 7.5 Kohler Gas for 750$ running for 5 yrs now and going strong from a Generator dealer (was a trade in) had 200 hrs on it. #4 Just bought a 7.5 from same dealer that only had 34hrs on it for 1500$ Customer returned because it wasn't big enough for his job..Dealer sat on it for two yrs started asking 3grand for it but took the 1500$ cash offer. So deals are there to be had must just be patient. Bob All were RV gen sets.

Those were great buys, Bob. Good work. Thanks for emphasizing that you got real RV generators. I've had a few people tell me "you can get a really good generator at Harbor Freight for $400". Yeah, but not the kind of generator that I need!

it doesent matter if you are searching for a bus,truck, trailer,gen set etc, you have to do your homework. then you have to do your searching and be ready with cash in hand and be QUICK! And you will get a good deal if you can be PATIENT!.

Excellent point!

I have completed a bunch of projects using this same attitude.

Sometimes I have to move onto to another project while waiting, but its a game of wits and patience I enjoy.

8-9 years ago I picked up a brand new 7.5kW Isuzu 1800 rpm water cooled 3 clyinder genset for $3295.00. Still use it-- it works nicely with my Trace SW2512MC inverter for surge overloads. It is much nicer/easier to have a diesel generator that runs off the main fuel tank.

I got an RV removal with some "Quirks in it" for $1200. it took another $500 in parts but its 6.5KW and Diesel.
just used it today to help remove some seats from the bus.

Some of you guys seem to have connections galore to buy used stuff. My trouble is even if I spend a month or two looking for a used item I can't find one. As soon as I give up and buy new three nice used ones will show up within days.

Not bus related, but I am looking for a treadmill right now. Craigslist has a fair number of them, but how much time and gas money does one want to spend making appointments and driving all over town? A number of folks have reported buying used treadmills to find they are junk and were patched up enough to sell. I haven't given up on used completely, but I am seriously consdering a new floor model as stores switch over to spring merchandise.

Just bought a stationary bike for $60 on Craigslist, original cost $500. Guy wanted $80 and I offered $50. I often will bid VERY low (always 1/2 price) On occasion I have got it but if not it can lead to a reduced price. If your offer is not high enough the worst that can happen is the guy says no.
