I just called the parts guy I deal with at the Prevost dealer to confirm what I thought I knew. According to him (and it's what I thought). 1984 through 1999 XL's use the same windshields, about 33 1/2 tall. My 1988 does not have any glass in the cap but some of the older ones did. He didn't know when Prevost stopped putting the glass in the caps. I don't remember seeing any after 1990 with the extra 2 pieces in the cap. The XL II started sometime in 2000 depending on the serial number break and had the taller windshields. I don't know the height of the taller glass.

I've always heard the Prevost windshield was the same size as the Prevost side glass and the Prevost and 4104 windshields are the same. The measurements are really close.

I've heard that the windshield and side windows are the same size in older units, the side windows in mine are larger than the windshields, but the left and right windshields are the same part. Prevost has specials on glass from time to time a couple of years ago I purchased 10 windshields for $79 each and split them up with several other nuts.

Haven't priced them lately but 4 yrs ago when I replaced mine. I liked to choked! thought they would be 1/2 of main windshield. Ck to make sure and try to catch  on special.  Or just cover up ;and insulate behind and do away with allot of heat gain.  Bob

Yeah, ours are dark tinted, covered and at least a LITTLE insulated behind. . . but one of these days we will have to replace the cracked one, yee haw.  Christy

My immediate thought is to make up a composite panel with an insulating sandwich core the same dimensions as the glass, pop them it, little bit paint (or make the outer skin carbon fiber - bling bling) and bob's your uncle...

If they were an option, and if people cover them up, that might be an easy way to go.  Once you make a mould, the parts would be dead cheap.

If I make the deal the XLV front end is going to be changed to the XL11 it has front end damage below the windshields so repairs are needed anyway.
I do not like the looks of the XLV front ends with the glass above or the caps with small windshields.
James here on the board changed to the XL11 front end on his XL that was wrecked making a nice modern looking bus

Some of the converters left the glass in and spray painted the backside black.

This may sound silly especially with the cost of that glass but I would rather have it.

We do not have it but rather a solid fiberglass cap up there but I wish we did.

It is way way more durable in that location than any paint could be and then tere is the enduring shine of the glass too. I think it just looks nicer too. The older the bus gets the better the upper front will continue to look with the glass.

Those with broken glass how visible is it with the stuff blacked out, I would think not too much but Iduno.

Marathons all have the glass above.

Oh, you can't really notice it unless you get really close....which pretty much only the bus washer (yours truly ;) does), but figuring sooner or later it will get worse and either break out or at least leak.

If nothing else, I guess when we figure out what to do with the peeling clear coat, we'll fix the window too, kind of the old "two birds" routine.  Christy
