I was reading another thread when someone mentioned some of the things we do to prevent squeaks.  I know that I have used adhesive and so far 800 self tapping screws with at least that many more before i'm finished....!   I've used two cases of adhesive between steel and wood and wood and wood layers!  I've even heard that some used ozite between cabinets and walls for preventiong of squeaks.  I'd like to hear some of your ideas, and also just how bad are the squeaks!..........thanks!

very very little and that's with slides. Drives me crazy if it squeaks. Occasional unsecured item slides off counter. Books etc.   To answer your original question. your doing it rite! fasten cabinets securely and you  shouldn't have noise there. I put plastic tubing over plate rack to keep them from clicking and put 2 inch plastic pipe end screwed to bottom of cabinets to hold glassed from clinking together. For pocket doors I use a strap with a snap to keep them secure during travel. a small wedge on bottom of cabinet draws so you need to lift up slightly to open will keep them in place. things in ice box (beverage cans) can make a racket so need them tight or in a horizontal rack. any pantry door on hinges can be held by mechanical or magnetic devices.

I have no squeaks or rattles. The one time I did have a rattle I found my driveshaft bolts were coming loose. The only thing I hear is that DD humming along.

Nuts!  You beat me to it.  Mine doesn't squeak, but SHE has been known to rattle on and on.  Now I have to clean up the coffee that I spewed all over the table ..... thanks a lot!

Didnt take any precautions during building and have no squeeks at all. I used to gave a drawer open up and close but have since fixed that!

Mine's pretty quiet but a vehicle that size is going to make some road noise. With the radio on you just don't hear much except the Detroit. Without the radio it's a tin echo chamber!!

In mine I can hear a mouse pee on a piece of cotton! My bedroom floor is leaded so I don't even hear the 92. I can hear a little road noise if the toll window is open.

I used dead-bolt latches and clasp type drawer closures (nylon into spring steel). Then used felt strips strips (glued) to cushion any gaps. No squeaks, no rattles. All credit to Ralph Peters, who's built several of these monsters.

Thanks again, Ralph!   ;)

When we first bought ours the panels in the sunshine ceiling in the kitchen drove me nuts with their rattles.  I fixed that by putting foam weatherstripping along all the edges where the panels rest.  Now the only noise is the cat or mama squawking.  If there's a noise I like to know where it is coming from so I can fix it but I haven't figured out how to fix the cat or SWMBO.

Gonna call you 360 (as in degrees) from here on (less typing) :)

I know how to fix a cat (can't publish it though...) :). But I don't know about that SWMBO thing.  Might you clue me in?

PS. I never trust that GPS either. Some say computers are smart? Maybe so, but they've sure got weird travel plans.

No squeaks, but once I put doors on the cabinets they rattled like mad!  They are very light and just danced with the Detroit at idle.  Small self adhesive pieces of craft foam took care of that.  The only other one that really bugged me was the burner plates on the stove.  They just get a towel under them.  All's quiet!

The tightest bus I have is the '57 MCI Courier 96. Over engineered, overbuilt. After 54 years, solid as a dump truck.

Either one of the hockey team's 102 D, or my MC5 have some rattles under rough conditions: dirt roads, rough surfaces, etc. The worst were the MC1s and MC3s we had at Brewster's in the '70s. Especially the front ends. The front door would develop sags and gaps, and wind whithles, with the frame bending. I remember driving them to Winnipeg for rebuilding. And driving home to Banff with rebuilt buses, or brand new 5Bs or Cs. You don't see a lot of MC1s to 4s around much anymore. Quality improved greatly with the MC5.

Just as bad were the '70s and '80s Prevosts. We didn't think Prevost were any good back then. As a matter of fact, the hockey team used to have a '79 Prevost that rattled and squeaked so bad, along with being so rusty, I really didn't like driving it. I still don't like Prevost to this day. Although to be fair, I am sure they are a lot better now.

In my humble opinion and limited experience, MCIs have always been a solid, basic, reliable bus and is still the best seller, most popular bus in North America.

Mine rattles quite a bit, but I'm used to lots of noise as I'm a pilot and I fly skydivers.  If only there was a way to keep my drunk friends quiet on the road ; :P
