A couple Quick Questions....

I am wanting to charge the batteries in my MC-9 it is a '79 model with a 24 volt system can anyone tell me if it is possible to charge the batteries with a 12 volt charger WITHOUT disconnecting the batteries and doing them one at a time???

ALSO I am wanting to add a tach to the 8V71 that is in it, can anyone tell me where the tach sender screws on to the engine?

you can charge bat individually. Elect tack runs off alternator post.

Yes, you can just attach the 12 volt charger to each battery, one at a time, to charge them, no wires to remove.

No, you can't charge them both at the same time without removing the jumper between them, and then using jumper cables, attach your two positives and negatives to the charger in a parallel scheme.

There are mechanical tach drives, but, everyone says they are fairly rare... most coaches drive the tach via a signal off the alternator.

Others will chime in with specific details.

As noted, charging the batteries with a 12 volt charger is perfectly fine, just one at a time.  No need to disconnect anything.  The two places most common on 8v71 engines for tach drives is on the front of the engine (the pulley end, the very back of a bus engine) on the left hand cam  position there is often a tach drive take-off already installed, or on the blower drive at the back top of the engine.  You can usually attach a sender unit that can create the drive signal for an electrical tach, or just attach a mechanical tach, which is what was used during tuneups and such.
