My wife and I would like to go out west in 2012 and with all the mountains etc out there I think a jake brake install would be justified. I have an 8v92 with a 6 speed spicer in my prevost. What can I expect to pay for an install of a jake brake system on my 8v92 ?

Around 1500 bucks and 300 bucks if you need the tall valve covers,I can get you the Jakes for 900 bucks rebuilt if Don has any left

Clifford,
Just trying to push some business Don's way.

Scanzel,
Clifford's numbers are right, but you will love them.  Some will tell you that setting them up to be 2 stage is a waste of copper, but I like that too.

I have three sets left but I will not have time to rebuild any of them until after the 10 of Dec. when I get back from New Orleans.

Thanks

Don

P.S. Lin I'm not sure I can afford your kind of business.LOL

I have an 8v92, and am getting a set of Jakes ready for installation. Bought a used set off eBay for about $450, including tall valve covers, but the solenoids and drones all needed rebuilding, so we bought a Tune-up kit from Don - after a very frustrating search of DD dealers.  No one seemed to have this kit in inventory.
Like you, we are planning a big trip to Oregon from the east coast next autumn, and those long downhill grades are scary. The jakes will be reassuring, and the fact that they are profesionally rebuilt will be comforting too!
     Best of luck!

Don, who on the world would say 2 stage Jakes on a 2 stroke are a waste of copper wire  lol

good luck

Clifford,
I think it was one of the Newbies.

I wired mine as two stage Jakes on my RTS and I think they're very useful.  On the downhill into Laughlin from the AZ side, sometimes the Jakes work too good if both heads are On..  Nice to have just One head working on some hills..  just a newbie commenting :D

Yea No Rivets but you are descending that hill in 2nd gear to start with, try I 17 from Flag to Camp Verde with 3:36 gears and 4th gear you can hold your hand out the window and have the same affect  LOL just giving Don a hard time here Jake on a 2 stroke are not much when used in 4th with 3:33 gears even on both banks.
I noticed a huge difference with my Jake's when I went from 3:73 to 3:36 gears

good luck

Well, holding out your hand must have some effect.  Isn't that why they have those signs that say "Stop" on school buses that pop out?  That's what they call air brakes, right?

RPM does make a big diffreance on the way your jakes work. If they are in good shape and adjusted properly they will almost make you go backwards on some of them so called hills you have in the east.

Uncle Ned. Why don't you load up huggy with wilma and whet ever and come over to new orleans. Dec 1-3

I am trying to get clifford and sonja to come over we could have an impromptu gathering, any body in the mood.
