John  If you are getting this off a dealer he will give you a temporary plate to get you home.

Does anybody know how other folks have done this?  I know there are several people from other countries that have purchased a motorhome for traveling in the U.S.  One that comes to mind was someone from Australia that was planning it.

I did some research on TN and GA laws and due to their "proof of residency" requirements I don't see how people would do this in these states.

John is pretty discouraged because with BK's help he found a good motorhome for it and was anxious to come get it and go the TBR in it but now the whole plan is hinging on how to get it titled and plated without being a resident of a U.S. state.

John, form a LLC corp and title the MH it in it check  www.llcpoint.com I think Nev is the cheapest 75 bucks for mine and you can do it on line and file it check their site all the prices are there for all states AZ was 110 bucks so I went with and NV for 75 bucks and NV has no corp taxes.
You can also title in a trust but they are pain once into a trust never away out anyway you do it the DMV will have to inspect the unit.I checked and TN cost 325 bucks for a LLC or you can drive to AZ and use my address here we don't care where you have drivers license from no resident requirements, in Texas you license without changing the state on the title also just buy Texas plates you will need proof of insurance in Texas but not in AZ

good luck

From http://www.dmv.org/driving-abroad/usa.php
Quote* Drivers license. As a tourist, your foreign license is valid in most states for up to one year. Some states offer a shorter grace period, but regardless of your length of stay, make sure the license contains photo identification. If your home license comes in several pieces, bring them all.

    * International Driver Permit (IDP). The IDP is typically not required to drive in America. Some states and car rental agencies do request the IDP, so it's never a bad idea to have one at hand. You must get your IDP in your home country, before making the trip abroad.

Each state issues its own driving laws, but in practice they're pretty similar across the USA. Review the drivers manual for any state (they're all online) so you're familiar with any signage or laws that differ from what you're used to.

I'm no help on title and plates. Assuming you find a way, some areas will require a smog certification as well.

And having liability insurance is pretty much a must...you can't legally drive without it in most places.

John,
My outlaw from corpus(Bill) says you can register it at your home address. You need ins. and reg. in the county you buy it in. He said you could reg. it at any address You want. This is in Tx. so I don't know about Tenn.

Since you already have a Florida address, I would start there.  Tag prices are low but you will have to pay sales tax on the unit.  Since it it a private sale, the purchase price, thus the tax, is whatever you say it is.

Everything you need should be here someplace:  http://www.myflorida.com/

Busted Knuckle

Hey John,
I sent you an email. And just had a crazy thought. If yer flying in this week end. If you could fly into Louisville, KY air port on Friday or Sat by noon mom & dad could pick you up there and bring you home with them as they will be dropping their group of International journalists off there Sat AM and returnging home empty! FWIW. Also I might have a bus/driver coming in from the Nashville area too!
