Surprise Reception on Zion Trip

I spoke to a ranger in Zion.  They said that the escort was not needed because of the construction, but said the total length can not be more than 50 feet including the toad.  I will check again to see if that's right but that would mean we'd have to separate the car and drive it separately.  I am not sure the ride will be worth the hassles.  That's why I was wondering if anyone had done it before.

Lin, I don't have any idea how hiway 9 is on the Hurricane side but from Mt Carmel up to Springdale that road is in bad shape passable but not that great not a problem for your 8v71 I been across it with a 8v71 couple of times in my 5 and 8 .
If you been through the park take 14 out of Cedar City over to Long Valley on 89 through the Cedar Breaks you have to go North anyway toward Hatch don't let anybody talk you into taking the road from Glendale north to get to Bryce I made that mistake once lol.
We are going back to Bryce in mid Oct I want hike to the bottom of the canyon probably will need a helicopter ride out lol but I want to do that just never had the time or took the time to really enjoy Bryce

I was also told to take 20 across from I15 to 89 rather than 14 since there would be fewer serious grades.  Ever try that?  By the way, did you get the PM I sent a day or two ago?

Lin,14 is not that bad nice drive and when you leave St.George on  I 15 that is a long steady climb till you reach Parowan either way will work we been both, about the pm no I haven't check it in a few days Bob Evans called today telling me to check my email so I'll do that

We live in Cedar City UT just 40 miles north of where Mike And Christi are. If we had know he was there we would have stayed a while on our way back from our GM Rally in Kanab which was on the 25th of Aug. My wife and I enjoyed their entertainment at Q last Jan.

I try to caution folks to be very careful when using Utah 14. The road goes over a 10,000 Ft pass and drops down to 5000 ft all in about 40 miles. For those going to Bryce ,I recommend Hwy 20. It climbs to 8000 Ft pass but is much easier on brakes (Jakes or not) with dual lanes on all the climb areas as opposed to 14 that is steep and single lane.Hope this might help.

We took a day trip to Cedar Breaks on Sunday.  That took us all the way up hwy 14.  Great scenery and drive in the Jeep, but it would have been trying in the bus towing the Jeep.  We took hwy 20 today to move over to Bryce.  The pass is not quite as high and, as mentioned, the climbs are double-laned.  I'm glad we did it that way.

I don't find 14 that bad myself I like it, been over dozen of times towing a Jeep behind the bus

It certainly is doable, but it is about a 5000 foot ascent with 4 to 8% grades and only one lane.  There were lots of RV's on it, but it would really be slow with the 8v71.  There was also a reasonable amount of traffic on the road when we went there Sunday, so we would have many places where there would be a load of cars behind us.  For me, this also detracts from the trip.  20 was pretty empty.  Even though the grades have a slow lane, there were only a few vehicles that passed us.  On the other hand, I got to feel macho passing several gravel trucks.  Us old guys like to do it the easy way sometimes.  It's different for youngsters like you, Clifford.

Lin, it was great meeting you Sun, and seeing Micheal again. We simply love the setting in which the RV park is located, and the lake is terrific! Great location for a Bus rally (hint hint! ) We made it over to see that Eagle

Very impressive to say the least. Zion national Park is always a treat, and like Clifford I myself will have to make a return trip to Bryce Canyon so I can git down in there and do some exploring. the approaches to the MT Carmel tunnel in Zion has almost been reduced to a goat trail of sorts on both sides with one lane traffic , covered wih dirt(mud) it is passable with a coach but after the Haulipai trip with Basil, my off roading with a bus days are over lol!
