Missing Battery Door

Decided to take the bus on a trip this weekend to see the grandkids in Elko Nevada (300 miles). When we arrived and I got out I saw my battery door had blown off. I had to replace one of the start batteries last week and I don't know if I didn't close the door correctly or just what might have caused it to come loose.

The PO changed out the hinges and was using a couple of rubber straps that seemed to work fine but the straps are still there but no door. I can't even guess where to start looking for a battery door or what it might cost. We have a 1971 MCI7 and I checked on the Motor Coach Industries site just to get an idea of the cost but as could be expected they do not have them.

Does anyone have any suggestions where I can start looking? It sure looks naughty seeing inside the bus's innards without the door. the good think is, it is located on the curb side and I don't pass too many people so not that many people will see it before we get home..

IBP in Florida, International Bus Parts, makes up the metal skins with the correct fluting for all our coaches.

The chances of finding a donor will be slim and very lucky.

Just make a new one. Measure it up and see what a skin will cost.

Who remembers the source for those nice stainless hinges that retrofit for this, and the GM bay doors, to replace the rubber hinges?

happy coaching!

I just got home from Reno today and didn't see your door on the way home. I might have seen you headed east on Friday?

If you want custom..just use 1 inch angle covered with alum or polished stainless...easy and cost effective and could give custom look..been awhile since I have had a Mci but if I remember rite they hindge up..stainless piano hindge on top would look good..just a idea   Bob

I can't help with the door repalcement, but we replaced our rubber hinge with a stainless steel piano hinge.  Jack

I went to your profile and it says your email address is hidden. I am hoping you were in Reno and found my Battery Door laying on the side of the road, but my next hope is you have an extra battery door for an mci7 that you will sell....

I emailed the guy you suggested on Ebay and he said he had a friend that was parting out a mc7 and would check and see if he had a door, thanks for the heads up. I didn't see you on the highway but the wife drove most of the way while I unhooked the toad and tried to retrace our steps looking for the battery door. I had a hell of a time catching back up with her, she finally pulled over in the big city of Lovelock and waited until I finally gave up looking and got back into vacation mode. The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful once we relaxed a bit and got ready for the grandkids birthdays.

I will call Caylor Supply and check with them as a couple of readers have suggested them, I tried emailing IBP but their email address didn't work so I might have to call them also.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am thinking I will be able to find a solution from one of these ideas.

Bcaddel,
Sorry ..I am not in Reno, nor did I happen to drive over your battery door.
However I do have a battery door off a mci 9 that I keep tripping over in my carport.
If it will fit your situation, and I can get rid of it, it will cost you freight only.
I can send a pic of it to you.
