Greetings fellow busnuts!  I'm adding a post here on behalf of a brand new member to our group; Clovis.

Clovis has a few questions on his bus, and I'm certain we have the knowledge to get him going the right direction.

Kind Regards, Phil (for Clovis)

---------------------------->
I have a few questions on my bus.

The SN of my bus is 1M89CM8A0CP37162 1982 MCI9 crusaderll mfg in June of 1982. The engine Sn no is 8VA-271301 model no is 7087-7000

What kind of info can you tell me about it given the information I have gave you? The engine smokes real bad and I mean really bad, it also is blowing oil out the exaust bad. I know at best it will need and inframe.

Have thought about looking for a good used engine. Would need to make sure as best as I could that it was a good one. I need to go as cheap as I can as money is real short around here.  I know I should not be trying to have a bus with my limitations but it has always been a dream of mine and I am going to give it my best before I leave this old earth. The bus is in really good shape
other wise, body really good, trans works really good, tires are good shape. All seems to work except the smoking oil blowing engine. It even cranks excellent, and runs pretty decent.

The engine is a plain 8v71 I think but not sure. It is green and no turbo. It cranks fast and easy also runs pretty good.   Tires are pretty good.

The only problem I see other than the engine woes is it has a air leak in a air bag or somewhere in tht area on the right side. will leak down fairly fast when you shut it off.

Thanks For your help,
Clovis

It is oil not fuel, almost two gal while building up air pressure and driving about five miles round trip. Thans for the advice, and thank you phil for posting this as this is my
first post and not sure what I am doing.

are you certain you are filling to the right oil level ?
Sometimes the more I think about something the less I think about something.    As soon as I save a little money my bus finds out.                                      Why grab a plane when you can take the bus ?                         If I'm wrong 10% of the time how can the "Queen" be right 100%

steve,
Yes I am checking the oil correct. While I am new to a large bus I am not new to diesel motors or large vehicles. I drove an 18wheeler most of my adult life. Drove truck for forty years until I became disable and doctors took me out of work. I also am a county boy, I have several tractors including two track loaders, a back Hoe and three farm tractors but having said all that I am not a mechanic for sure. never work on the inside of a engine. can add parts on outside but dumb about the inside. Thanks for the
sugestion though as we all can forget some time.

Steve or whoever else that might know
one of the questions I have is how to read and understand the model numbers that is stamped on the engine along with the serial no the no on mine is 7087-700.
that is the model no, both it and the serial no is in the original post that phil made for me.

Clovis, welcome on a 2 stroke using that much oil always check the top first pull the air horn from the top of the blower start the engine and use a flash lite if oil is running down the ends of the blower you need seals be careful checking the blower it will eat anything that falls in there.
Then drain the oil and put 6 gals of a good 40w oil then check the mark on your stick it should be a little low and yours is a 8v71 go to the PC industries web site and it will show you how to read the numbers one of these guys will give you their web address

good luck
Life is short drink the good wine first

ok, here's the site for some learning mentioned earlier:

PCIndustries:  http://www.powerlinecomponents.com/

Under literature on the side, here's the model id info for a V71:

http://www.powerlinecomponents.com/literature/detroit_diesel/v71_model_chart.htm

You have a normal bus engine that sounds to be really sick.

happy coaching!

thanks buswarrier
next to the numbers that correspond to my it says vehicle f to f. I understand vehicle but what does f to f mean.

wildbob24

Clovis,

f to f = fan to flywheel.

I would heed Luvrbus's advice and check the blower.

as others have said oil is getting in the air box to dump it that fast..above the air box is the blower which is lubricated by engine oil.unlikely that much oil would get past rings that quickly...air box drains are located on each side of engine and should remain open at idle:to drain excess oil and moisture out of air box..they should be leaking oil out also if they are not stopped up....40 wt oil (straight)is very important in a two stroke...10w40 tends to leak in various places...see archives Search topic on oil..proper oil level in pan is 1 inch below oil pan gasket(not running) just a few observations..not that you don"t .know.just a reminder ..good luck Bob..PS Pete lives in Enterprise Al..and has a 9
