You don't have to believe everything you think.

Yes.
They work as advertised.

Batteries used to require water very frequently. Now only occasionally.

I checked the web page and found this.

"We no longer carry the Hydrocaps, due to excessively long lead times and poor delivery."!!

Lin, i have been using them for the last 6 years and they do work. You still have to check the water level on a regular basis but it does cut down on the amount of water that is used,......distilled of course!  ;D
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

What am I missing here?

I went to the website again and found only one type of cap listed with the same message still at the bottom of the page??

Two different methods for reclaiming battery water.

A water miser cap simply condenses as much of the escaping vapors as it can & drains it back into the battery.

A hydrocap uses a catalyst to recombine the gases to a liquid & drains it back into the battery. They are much more efficient but the more vapor, the hotter they get, so for equalizing, they must be removed or the heat will ruin the catalyst. They also cost lots more than the water miser caps.

I went with the water miser caps for Dad's coach because Dad didn't want to take 'em off for equalizing the batteries & the water misers seem to be more tolerant of neglect/ abuse. Besides, I couldn't see paying more for caps than I did on the batteries   ;D  :o

I think the better solution is using an automatic watering system.  These are float valves which take the place of your battery caps, fed through tubes (aquarium hose) and reservoir.  When the water level goes down, the floats open and trickle more water in, back to the proper level.

All you have to do, once installed, is make sure you have water in the reservoir, which can be put pretty much anywhere, such as on a wall in the kitchen where you will see it.
