Right of passage - Harbor Freight

Well I did what all busnuts must do in their life time I went to my local Harborfreight Store.  Unlike another rights of passage in my past there was no soft music, wine, candles etc, just a very bright store with lots of tools.  I bought a buffer that had good ratings, and a rolling stool way cheaper than amazon had it. So we will see about longevity.  All in all not a bad experience.

Save those 20% off coupons that are in so many magazines, then you can get some good deals.   I got a 2 HP twin-tank air compressor for only $72 (normally $140), and 20-ton bottle jacks for only $24, plus lots of the free LED flashlights.   My "magnesium" angle grinder works just fine, but I took it apart and added to its somewhat parsimonious gob of communist grease on its bevel gear:  it now runs cooler and quieter.   I tend to buy the most expensive version of whatever HF stocks, and often they are no different than comparable items from Craftsman or Home Despot  -  they probably all come out of the same factories in the Socialist Workers' Paradise.
Yup, I also probably wouldn't buy my parachutes or pacemakers from Harbor Fright, but it's OK for some things.

I've been buying from HF for years.

The stuff is OK but for serious day in and day out purposes it will probably not hold up.

None of the hydraulic jack stuff I have will hold position more than a few minutes.
