Mike,

Can something like that be put together?  I am computer challenged or I would volunteer.  I'll send money though. ;D

John,
I'm thinking electronics as a whole. For instance how many ways can you get a tv signal: Cable, Satelite, manual or auto setup satelite, mobile satelite, rooftop antenna for local channels, and now there's an antenna doo hicky that hooks up to your usb port on the computer allowing reception of local hd channels. You can watch it on your computer or send the signal out to a second monitor or tv. You can even record programs on the computer like a dvr & watch later. And if this is boring there's always the dvd player.

John9861,
Now that is exactly what I am talking about.....a doo hicky that allows reception of HD TV direct into the "puter".  Despite all the WiFi and aircard "stuff" I would want that as a TV backup if it were reasonably priced.  Who wouldn't?  That's a good topic and it isn't even a forum yet.

I would hope that those with "first hand experience"  would lend their anecdotal "facts" but, possibly even more importantly, those with "hear say info", such as yours , in this one instance, would continue to "muddy the water" with what is only one bare step up from a postulate or theory, both fancy words for "it sorta makes sense to me" but coming from someone uneducated.  Hear say, hunch, thought, heard about, didn't so and so?  etc etc.  Its at that point that those with education only or professional authority can reason and report a finding of fact....sorta.  It is even Scriptural:  "from the mouth's of babes".  What do they know, right? I admire Dallas for sharing his "first hand experience", and I envy his experience and I know he entertains questions, with patience, from those that TRULY have less than a clue.  He ain't no babe.

Thank you John,

John

John,
Not to muddy the water further but do a search on EBay for "USB TV Antenna". I just started looking into it. They don't seem overly expensive but I noticed there is a specific type required in the US. I'm sure the reception area isn't as far as rooftops but it's just amazing how much stuff is out there.

I bought that Myo item for $39 on Amazon.  It receives FM and TV and also functions as a recorder/playback and has an additional hi gain ant. AND a remote control.  Can anyone explain how this stuff can be made available to retail for this pittance?  Same item on Amazon for $49.
Thanks for the heads up John
