I need a Jake Brake Buffer Switch

Does anyone have a Fast Idle Buffer Switch Assembly for sale for my Detroit 8V71?

They are ridiculously expensive. I think they are well over $400. When Don recently installed my Jakes, we went with a plane buffer switch that does not accommodate the fast idle. That is much more reasonable. Do you need the fast idle?

We have an air throttle, so we did ours differently. We left the OEM fast idle switch in place. We have an air throttle and, by using a gauge, found that it takes 5 PSI to make the throttle start to open. We installed a 3 PSI NC switch in the air line to the air throttle actuator. This shuts off the Jakes just before the throttle starts to open. With our 740 automatic transmission, the Jakes are only effective when the transmission is in lock-up mode. Lock -up pressure is within 10-15 of mainline pressure (170-180), so we added a NO switch in the lock-up pressure test port on the transmission. The 2 switches are wired in series, and powered from the dash Jakes switch. So the only time the Jakes will come on is when the dash switch in on, the throttle is at idle position and the transmission is in lock-up mode. The switched control a relay that operated the Jakes. This limits the amperage that is flowing through the switches. Jack

Better yet, save fuel, save money, reduce acidification in the oceans, clean the air, and stop noise pollution. Just turn it off. Don't let it idle. I no longer see any need to use fast idle or to idle at all other than the brief time it takes to air up. and i hold my foot on it for that long, at a fast idle, 7 minutes.

I would install a high idle buffer switch.In cold weather I let the engine idle on fuel stops, without the high idle I didn't feel the oil pressure was up enough to keep the uppers lubed properly.Jefferson in Oklahoma City had one and a few parts for repairs.The switches were made for Eagle if you get just the housing The innards in the regular buffer switch transfer to the high idle switch.They are pricey,good luck.

I don't understand. I have no experience with either the Jakes or high idle but it seems that a high idle buffer switch is a bit over complicated. The high idle is electrically operated, it would seem a simple circuit to use a relay to prevent operation of the jakes in high idle mode.

Len, the fast idle is air operated takes air lines 1 going to fast idle and the other to holding lever on the governor holding very important you have a holding on the governor

I understand that the fast idle is air operated, but isn't that activated by an electric skinner valve? Why can't that same electrical signal be used to prevent the jakes from operating?

what do you mean by "holding lever on governor"?

I tried to work out why my fast idle didn't work a while ago, and found I was missing the air cylinder with Jake switch, and just jake switch on buffer screw. There is another air cylinder that just seems to stop the accelerator from being used while fast idle on, is this what you mean, or does it actually do more than this?
