This probably a long shot, but I need help with the spare tire winch on my Dina.  The manual has a nice section about tires, but nothing about the spare tire.

Anyone dealt with one of these?  Dina has a spare tire winch just like a lot of SUVs and minivans.  The problem is the cable will unspool, but the cable just goes slack and the tire does not lower.  The tire is loose and not binding on anything.

There is a handle next to the cable spool, but it only moves about two inches and doesn't seem to release anything.  I have no idea if the handle is supposed to go in or out.  I will probably have to call MCI on Monday.

wish I had first hand knowledge...at a guess it sounds like a safety device Inca's of a cable failure..might re-tighten cable then see if the lever will move farther and release or just wait till someone that really knows chimes in...Happy bussing Bob

I'm pretty sure the lever is some sort of lock, but I have no idea if it supposed to go in or out to unlock.  I've tried cranking the tire up, but it would get 100% tight.

I have had the tire up and down in the past so I know the winch has worked.  I want to take the tire down to evaluate possibly using the area for something besides storing a tire.  I don't carry the proper tools to change a tire so I would need a tire service truck anyhow.

Okay, that was supposed to say "it would not get 100% tight".

I haven't looked at it today since I have a terrible headache and such.

I completely forgot to call MCI about this today.  BK, do you see anything on your Dina that might help me?

I'll probably crawl underneath tomorrow to see what is going on.

Lots of good it did to call MCI so far.  The guy I talked to had no idea that the Dina even has a spare tire winch.  He is supposed to call me back though.  I'm not surprised really.  There are many times more real MCIs on the the road than Dinas.

I didn't get around to looking at this again until today.  I went to lower the spare tire and it went down!  I don't know what happened to make it suddenly start working.

I did find that the lock for the winch is supposed to be pulled out to unlock the cable.  The lock is simply a disk with a hole in it.  The disk basically jams against the cable to lock the cable.
