Other than insurance, how can I make my bus theft proof? Has anyone moved the switch on the dash to turn the bus on? What about the club? Would that work on a bus? Any ideas would help... thanks.

We've got a security system but we never set it.  If I want to secure the bus I throw the main disconnect, set the rear start switch to Off and take the keys.  If they get past all that then they likely need it worse than I do.

The last thing I would ever want to do is hurt you.
Its the last thing but its still on the list.

Oooooooookay.......... Well I need this bus.

If your going that route then you might as well throw it in reverse too...  ::)

Are you talking about the bus or its contents.  Ours has the main switch and a keyed ignition.  If you need more than that, as mentioned you could switch to rear start and even throw the main battery switch.  Contents are a different issue.  I am sure there are alarm systems available.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

I am talking about the bus itself. I do not have a key start, justpush button.

Hide a simple on-off switch in series with your start button. GM didn't make the 4106 very obvious (transit type setup that no one liked), and I don't think the average nervous thief would take the time to mess with mine. I use the "This bus is so ugly, no one would want to steal it!" method.

That's what I wad thinking. It would have to be a 24v switch?

Any DC switch will work, as long as it will handle the amps, whicj not be much at all.  Jack

Bob's right.  they'd have to get past the deadbolt door, find the switch, and push the toggle.  if i also cut the battery and kill the rear switch, i've gotten past the average bus thief's skill set.  unless one of you is reading this.  ???

i'd be more worried about contents while i'm off having fun, coming back to the computers being gone.  that would ruin my day.  >:(

This has been on my mind of late.  The flat screen, theater sound system, spendy 18 inch lap top that really needs a bench, laser printer, comms and Blue Rays and other stuff has been the impetus.

I want the main entry way to fire off a red dye pack, unleash some BEAR grade pepper spray and a flash bang grenade.  I am not kidding by half.

Inside I want industrial grade ammonia to impress upon anyone the high priority of getting out of the bus regardless of inclement weather.  You will be looking for a guy pretty far from the coach that is seriously angry, has a sever nose bleed due to the AMONIA and wants a lift to the nearest hospital.  You can drop him off of the nearest bridge.

I have air horns that will double as a defibrillator at anything less than 50 feet and they are NOT those nice mellow truck items.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I saw an alarm system in a Ferrari several years ago that once the perp was in the car the doors would lock and dispense a dose of gas to knock them out. They could not open the doors from the inside until the alarm was deactivated. Pretty cool  ;D

A seventeen pound Manchester Toy bitch and a 26 pound Manchester Standard dog stopped and cornered a house breaker in our laundry room and held on till the A team help arrived.

My dogs are alarm dogs since I put down my Dobie.  Had he been there I would simply have closed the door for  five minutes.

Dogs rule!

I used to sell an industrial grade alarm system for application in the RV market.  They are 12V systems. I left the pages on the website if you want to take a look (http://www.rvsafetysystems.com/Interior%20Alarm%20System_old.htm).  That link has quite a bit of information.

They work great and have a ton of options that including ability to trigger "creative protection".

I quit selling the systems, as folks would spend hours on the phone with me and then shop me on the internet for perhaps a 5% savings.
