Door locks and handles...thoughts?

I realize that there might be people clicking into this, thinking about Clifford's most recent experience (terrible >:().

But actually we are just working through what kind of latch to put on the bus. We also want to install electric locks onto the bays (we have air locks right now). We are looking at using TriMarks stuff. http://www.trimarkcorp.com/en/zCategory.aspx?intcategoryid=174

Ideas....Suggestions?

Oh, yes. We are back from the trip, and we are as busy as can be.

God bless,

John

The original lock system has not been in use since 1776.  We have an rv-type and a deadbolt on the front door.  Since the air lock is gone, I have thought of adding something to snug it up a bit for travel and also make it super secure when parked.  I wondered whether some sort of heavy duty draw latch would work.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

I retrofitted a standard key operated deadbolt on my door with another regular deadbolt inside. The air lock and the original driver operated door opener is also still used. I am not satisfied with the security of the key operated dead bolt for when we leave the bus & have to lock the door but it is all I have right now. we don't use campgrounds & usually stay in some private lot so it has not been much of an issue but I am still watching this thread for suggestions.

I removed all of the original latch system and fabricated a new system with Peterbilt parts. It looks good and very positive latching and locking system.         BUR

John,

Send me your email. I have a lock system you may be interested in. The file with pictures is to large to post.

John,

Try this link:

This looks like a very strong door locking option. I think I am going to use it on mine. I will also send it to your email in case you can't open the link.

Thanks for the replies, guys. So it sounds like people haven't had much experience with TriMark...That is fine.

Now the big question is, manual lock, or electric. Maybe we do both. Electric (with a keypad) for when we are close to the bus, and in and out a lot. Manual heavy duty lock for when we will be away from the bus, and if security isn't too good...

Thanks again for the comments.

I will let you all know what we decide to do.

God bless,

John

Don't go too crazy with locks...those large holes called windows are easily opened with a rock...

There a few busnuts with online directions to use truck door parts for a nice entrance latch/handle/lock.

Jack Conrad, and who else?

happy coaching!

Hi BUR

Do you have more information about your Peterbuilt's system? Pics too?
