Not on a pumper!  Most of those hours were at high idle, operating the equipment, so the equivalent will be like about 2000 hours on the road.  You can also bet that it had better-than-average maintenance.

Wouldn't it make a cute conversion?  Pull the fire pack and build a shell behind the cab like that Mercedes sleeper coach -- or leave the fire pack, and never have to worry about low water pressure in the shower!

BG6, 8000+ hours are hours no matter how you slice the pie read the post.
That one has a pull and lock throttle to control engine rpm I know that for a fact my grandson works there.

Just like Andy used to say to Barney in the courthouse, "Clifford, you beat everything, you know it? You beat everything".

That's a ton of hours and mileage for a Type 1 fire Engine.  Bet it's had several engine changes during that 20 years.  Why are they getting rid of it?  "Several problems"?  Wonder what?  If it was in good shape, the Department should have kept it as a reserve or training engine.  It's not that old actually.  Something major wrong?  Fire Service is very hard on equipment.

No warm up time.  Quick fill air tanks, then FULL throttle to the address, then the apparatus just sits around idling if nobody needs it...and they forget to shut it off.  One would need AN INSIDE SOURCE of specific info on this particular item.  Might be a hanger queen...or...just had a new mill, tranny, pump overhaul, tires, brakes.......HB of CJ (old coot and retired Fire Engineer)
