Now this is an engine. 4 turbos on a one off 24V71 producing 2800+ horsepower. Not quite sure how you could make it fit in a bus though?  Jack

You could fit in the back of a bus, no problem! Just remove the bedroom! ::)

I am thinkin, maybe something like the "Little Red Wagon" Dodge van from the 60s. Flip the rear axle and install the engine and transmission in front of the rear end with a "box" over it in the middle of the bus. sorta like an island kitchen?  But what transmission is rated for that much HP?  Jack

Build up a special HT740 to back it and away you go!

Those semi-truck dragsters popularly use overboosted 8V92 and 6V92 and a HT740 specially prepared.

Smokin' Gun is one at 3100 HP:  http://www.smokingunracing.com/page1.aspx

I think the V24 will return a more reliable engine life than the nitrous boosted race truck!

happy coaching!

Detroit Diesel made about 250 of these monsters for marine use in high performance sport fishing boats originally putting out 1,800hp @ 2,500rpm.
When I was having my truck's 13spd manual exchanged for the Allison HT740 at Pedco in Santa Fe Springs, they had two of these engines that had been taken out of a boat in favor of a couple of 16V2000 MTU's (about 2,200hp, lighter and smaller). Pedco was modifying one of the 24V's by removing the turbos and installing chrome up stacks on each cylinder for a show truck.
The other engine is this one here.  They installed 6V-92TA exhaust manifolds with normal truck type cross over turbo mountings using large 8V-92 turbos on it.  This guy is going to install it in a truck for drag racing demos-if you can't tell from the video-a little bit on the different side, to be polite.
Putting out over 2800hp from 24 cylinders works out to be around 700 for a 6-71-anyone with a 4104 or Crown bus interested?  But- you can't beat the sound of a 12V-71 or double that sound for a 24V-71.  Good Luck, TomC

Wow, that guys is a prime example of "growing up is optional". Gonna take a large engine compartment and some creative cooling system to keep that big dog alive.

Surely, someone here will try it!..I'm sure that there are lots of guys here capable of the installation.

I would recommend the Eagle 01 frame for a start.  By the time you get the engine in and all the necessary radiators and fans, the available space might tighten up a bit.  When you add enough fuel capacity for a 500 mile trip, you might have the living space of a Vanagon, but it would be quick and a lot of fun. :D
