Hi,
I was planning to install a flatplate heat exchanger to use the engine heat with my proheat system while on the road.  What size of exchanger (# of plates) would I need to do this?
Thanks,
Richard

Nick,

I found this on the flat plate website:
http://www.gea-phe.com/fileadmin/user_upload/documents/brochures/FP_Hydronic_usa.pdf

They do have a btu rating based on an incoming water temp and desired return water temp.  I didn't know they had this and it is good technical info.

Off topic, I bought a refrigeration series exchanger for two 7.5 ton AC's at my coin laundry business to preheat my hot water.  It is one of the most energy saving things I've ever bought.  I can preheat 60 degree incoming water to as high as 147 in the summer heat, and never below 100 at any time the AC's run, and it keeps the compressor head pressure down when it is 105 outside.    I spent about $5000 to set this up back in 2005 and it has already paid for itself.   I had a Flat Plate engineer size the exchangers.  He sold me 10 ton exchangers, bigger is better in south TX.

Anyway, Richard, check the link to get an idea of how many btu's you want to exchange.  For my bus I bought a 45k btu exchanger from Dick Wright at Wrico.  It was part of the Webasto installation.  You should be able to do the same with the Flat Plate brand.

Hi David,

Great link... Thanks!!

Your set up in your biz sounds awsome! That's squeezing all the energy you can out of your A/C system... ;)
