Yep.  Looks like an EMD (Electromotive Diesel) block to me.  GMs engine in diesel electric locomotives.  HP could range from about 1800 to 3800 I'm guessing.

Looked again; is that thing in a boat? Reminds me of a tour aboard a WWII sub this summer in Charleston, SC.  The sub fittings reminded me a lot of an old ALCO locomotive.

Back in the 80s I worked on the crankshafts for these at the National Forge. They made a lot of others to. A lot of 4 throws and some I think ran 2 rods on each throw. They also bolted 2 cranks together to make a 8 throw. They also made 5 and 6 throws. They still make cranks there but not sure for who, GE for sure.  Tom Y

I'll take the 710 version at 20 cylinders with 6,000hp please.  Interesting-if you look at an engineering drawing of these engines, they are just big versions of what we run in our buses.  As compared to the super big 2 strokers that run in container ships with 39" bore and 98" stroke.  It just blows me away to think of that big piston traveling over 8ft up and down at 102 rpm.  That's like our engines running at 2,000rpm all the time!  Good Luck, TomC
