"How to" - replace blower seals?

Reading my manual it's a bit dicy as to whether it's a do-it-yourself to re and re the blower and then take it apart to replace the blower seals on a 8V-71.  Can someone who's done it give a bit of a blow-by-blow description, the highlights of the job so to speak?  You have to take the governor off, do you have to do a complete tune up after, plus run the rack, or does it not lose adjustment?

Thanks,

Brian, have you priced the blower service kit tools yet, remove it and buy a rebuilt blower from PC Industries for 300 bucks. It is common pratice to run the rack and check the governors setting after removal

I haven't got close to that far, and I am really just trying to understand the steps   ;)  How hard is the re-and-re with the engine in the bus, and it's a MCI so access to the back of the engine isn't the greatest!  That's the real question at this point.

By the time spring comes and my fingers don't freeze to the metal of the bus, I will have figured out all the steps to take to isolate and fix whatever the heck is wrong with my engine, with no mis-steps and 100% confidence.  Sure...

BTW can anyone send me a copy of the page in the manual that has the engine dolly plans?  I have the dimensions but no diagram...

Luvrbus: I checked out the PC web sight and they are asking around 1900.00 for a rebuilt blower. Do I have the right sight. I'am thinking that maybe I need new seals in my 8v-92 in my dump truck. Can you tell me how I can tell if I do need new seals. Thanks Bill.

Where did you find a price I see the 149 series and a new 71 series.
Last year I paid 285.00 plus shipping I sent mine to them to rebuild, what blower do have on the 8v92, 400 bucks is about the going price for the 8v92 rebuilt with mini bypass 100% blowers cost more.
Industrial Diesel in Fort Worth will sell 8v71 or 8v92 blower out the door for 400 bucks www.industrialdiesel.net

When I installed a turbo on my 4-71, I had to upgrade to the more recent blower seals that withstand the higher boost pressure. I looked at the manual for the R and R instructions..., and chickened out. I took it off and had the DD dealer do it. They did the seals and  a complete rebuild: seals, bearings, etc.: $1000.00. If I had known about rebuilds for $300 or 400, I would've looked into them.
