Just one guy's opinion, but I feel a lot less stressed driving on the interstate than one most two lane highways.  The interstate has nice wide shoulders most of the time and I don't have to worry about oncoming traffic.  I also don't get morons passing at dangerous places to do so because I'm not driving as fast as they want me to.

The 75 mile stretch of two lane highway in Nevada is hell to drive.  It is narrow with a 1 foot shoulder.  The roadbed is mostly raised and they put posts at the edge of the pavement about every 50 feet or so.

DeMoeDave said those three towns on 301 got most of their revenue from tickets!  That is exactly right.
In fact AAA use to not route you that for that very reason.
In Baldwin, Lawtey and Waldo, if you are not qualified to clean bathrooms at McDonalds...you can be a cop!

I'm kinda inclined to agree with belfert, unless i know the area I'm heading too I usually stay on the interstate, less stress on me that way, I get lost in a phone booth, (ok, when is the last time anyone has seen a phone booth), small towns seem to corn fuse me to no small extent, we spent a couple of hours in a small town in illinois that was on 51 and had construction detours all around a bridge, it was late at night and we ended up visiting several other close by towns in our efforts to get back on 51 north. Another place I really don't care to drive is thru toronto or hamilton ontario, toronto seems to have about 12 or 15 lanes coming and going from 3 major highways that run side by side with everyone doing about 80 and it's bumper to bumper, now that will wear on a person in a bus. lol

The stretch of highway between hamilton and toronto is up to 10 lanes wide, maybe more, and has essentially been abandoned as far as speed limit enforcement by the police, because it's too dangerous to chase and pull over offenders...

Highway 401 through toronto used to be in the record book as the most congested highway in the world.  some places are 26 lanes wide, and traffic is heavy at 3 am...

they built a toll highway bypass, at great public expense, and sold it at a loss to a private consortium out of spain, who now  raises the tolls at will - it costs around $30 to travel one way around toronto.  Last time I took it, with the bus actually, I had a scooter on the bumper and they couldn't see my plate, so my trip was free...   ;D

Yep that stretch is a real challenge at times, we hit it once just before 5PM, it was plugged tight and bumper to bumper and about 80, wow, my first thoughts were, what do they do with a fire? Next time thru we found out, a firetruck was clipping down the shoulder alongside the cement wall, traffic was still doing there best to all get killed lol, if I remember right it was 3 highways running side by side. lol LA has nothing on a canadian that heading to timmys lol.  Canada has some of the most challenging highways we've been on, the road from Sarnia to london has no shoulders at all and seems to be continual construction lol.

Well Cody,  just last week we saw 2 phone booths side by side at a rv storage yard in the desert, up by Laguna Dam, near Yuma.  We thought "wow what are these doing here", and realized that there are a lot of people dry camping out here. Saw 2 Canadian buses out there and one other bus in the storage yard. Thing is,......no phones in the booths. :)
