Webasto air-top, propane furnaces, vent-free heaters... What to do!?

I should have pointed out my plans to begin with.

I will be mostly boondocking, so all-electric would mean too much genset time, and wouldn't really make sense.  I'm somewhat doing that now with a 1.5kW electric heater which isn't enough and just wastes diesel through the genset.

I do have quite a battery bank, so I can handle an electrical load, but running my heat off electric doesn't make sense, so it sounds like propane is the way to go.

My insulation situation is embarassing, to say the least.  I've looked into replacing the insulation, but it doesn't sound like it'll raise the R-values that much unless I want to make the ceiling thicker (which I don't - though I keep thinking that someday raising the roof is going to need to happen).

People talk about spray foam or expanding foam - but it sounds like this is pretty expensive, and I haven't seen much info about how much it specifically helps with insulation in terms of actual R-values.

One thing that would make sense would be to block off some of my windows and to replace some with thermopane which a few people mentioned - where's a good source for thermopane windows?  Should I start checking with RV surplus?  Do they make them in the bus window sizes as a drop-in replacement?

We were lucky and purchased 4 Hehr dual pane sliders for our Eagle, width was perfect, height was 3/4" too short which we compensated for. You need to measure your window rough opening to get an accurate measurement, then go to Bontragers surplus and see if you can match them up. Otherwise you can have Pennisula make any size you want, around $400 each. They are located in Vancouver WA.

One of the easiest and quickest improvements you can make to your bus is to replace the windows with thermopane (duel pane) windows, like paul said they can usually be found in sizes very close to what you need, if you can find them at an rv surplus place you can find them normally for under 50 bucks each.  They will keep your bus warmer in cold weather and cooler in hot weather and also quieter on the road and the sliders with screens are nice when camping, you can open the windows for some cross ventilation.  I've bought windows in the past at Bontragers in White Pigion Michigan and at RV Surplus in Elkhart.

Heating The Bus Has Always Been An Issue. ( Below Freezing). When I Was A Young Man In My Early 20s And I Lived In A Converted School Bus. Being Warm Wasnt A Big Deal Really? Hell..... Just Close The Bar Every Night And Sleep With The Dog. And If I Was Lucking 2 Dogs.(One Real Dog & One Drunk Girl).LOL :D  "NO Heater Needed". On Those Lonley Dry Spells Theres Was The 3 Burner Stove. But That Only Heats From The Flame UP. Below That Is Freezing.

Now That Im Much Older ..... Its..Shade In The Summer And Heat In The Winter For Me......  Isnt That What They Say.??

Now Im In Big Trouble  !!!!!!!
