Guys, I am sure Wayne will post the out come of the problem he has more important things to do today before working on his bus would you rather freeze your @$# off hunting pheasant or working on the bus I vote for the pheasant LOL

It'd rather freeze my @$# off chasing tail feathers then them dark ugly shapes under the bus. One thing about it though is you can always climb back into the bus to warm up a little if you working on it.

Paul got to watch that antifreeze and gun powder it has a way of biting you back.

Wow what a journey to remember and I do mean remember for reasons of safety.  Luvrbus I can't thank you enough for the advice on the road. 

I believe it was a combination of things but the cold was ultimately responsible for it all.  As Luvrbus said the exhaut baffle at the pedal was frozen almost shut and not allowing the pressure operating the throttle to exhaut, thus keeping the bus at full throttle.  Not fun, AT ALL!!!  From Oklahoma City to Ponce I had to roll at 45 and 50 MPH to get where I was going.  When traffic got a little heavier I had to go slower than that.  At those speeds I was able to shut her down when I needed to.

The other problem was a grease zert on the mechanical arms on the opreating side of the pnuematic valve at the motor.  The grease was frozen and looked like bee's wax.  THe zert itself had not been serviced for so long the zert would not allow new grease to be injected.  THe grease inside the mechanical arm had to be locked up.

So to fix it we had one guy on a grease gun and me with metal rod to activate the arm back and forth because I could not get my arm in there to move it.  It took a while of working it back and forth but eventually we got it where the return spring would get it back to after it was released.

So we think we go the water out and the the probelms over I fire up and off we go.  I get a half mile and realize one of the brakes was locked.  I shut it down again and we get to work and were looking for a an access to get alcohol in it and then I decided to try something.  I popped off the parking brake and pumped the brake pedal.  It was still locked.  I tried it several times and the light went out.  I rolled it forward and popped it in nutral and it continued to roll with no brakes applied.  Boom we shot out of Ponca City and headed home.

I was headed for the Texas panhandle this weekend but I can't get the bus ready in that time frame so I have to leave it behind this week and stay in a nasty hotel.  I will not be headed anywhere in the north country until I get everything in the brakes cleaned peoperly, the dryer working ect.

It is good this experience happened to me.  I am new to bus ownership and I am very cautious.  You really have no clue of how vulnerable you are until your riding 38,000 pounds at 65 MPH and it sticks at that throttle speed in the middle of Oklahoma City traffic.  I can say this, the next thing I need to fix is the fabric on the driver seat

Oh and yes we shot good birds.  The roosters were a plenty but very very jumpy for the opening week of pheasant hunting.  They were busting up at about 50 to 60 yards which would put them at 70 or 80 yards out before you could get on them.  Too far to shoot.  We all got a rooster and some of us 2 or 3 and the guy we went with got a 12 point buck while waiting for us on a fence line drive.  The buck had 12 remaining points and 1 broken off time which would have put him at 13 points.  I am from Texas and the deer here are small.  This thing was a freakin moose of a deer.  I didn't know whitetails got that big.  If I can figure out how to post a pic I will post them.  Here at work they blocked photobucket.
