Just curious: are you sure he's running the rack? Looks like the cylinder heads are off. Perhaps he was prepping the block to reinstall the heads?

He may be cleaning up the decks prior to putting the heads back on. I have never 100% understood what "running the rack" actually means but I can say with about 100% certainty that is not what he is doing.

Well that one is sure easy... The tube sticking out of the guys ear is a "megaphone" for the hard of hearing the silver contraption is a Detroit Diesel voice amplifier, it sucks sound through the impeller and delivers it to the eardum clearer and louder! The part of the picture that is missing is the woman who is trying to tell the guy that they're gonna be late for dinner.

Right about now the Detroit amplifier is delivering the following sentence to his ear drumes

"The reservations are at 7 now chop chop and wash up for crying out loud"

She thinks it's the best invention ever made because he can't use the excuse that he didn't hear her anymore!!

He however, doesn't like it at all. Note the slumped shoulders and overall fatigued look.
