Ours is a straight drop ;).

It just worked out that way, and I am not sure how....

God bless,

Gumpy- as a matter of fact I do have real life experience with my toilet setup in my bus.  My toilet is on the right side of the bus with the tank running down middle of the bus.  Under the toilet is a 90 degree turn, about 4ft of slight down hill run to another 90 degree into the tank.  When doing number two, I simply put in about the same amount of water as a house hold toilet would have (bowl about half full).  In 15 years of use, never had a problem.  If you have dry pipes, a quick flush will wet things down.  My whole point-don't go crazy thinking you have to have the black tank right under the toilet.  If it gets to much of a run, then there are also vacu-flush and macerator toilets made also-but are expensive.  I have a 45 gal black tank that I can easily go a week without dumping.  Good Luck, TomC

Our toilet is about 6' from the tank with a 1" drop. As long as the coach is level no problem, although under certain circumstances we may have to flush twice. I always listen for the drop, when that happens I'm a happy camper! Keep in mind we are almost always hooked up, boondocking maybe different. I would go with the closet design as possible.

My sewer pipe not only goes into the side of the tank, it goes into the bottom of the side.

The result of this setup is that the only waste open to the toilet is the very small end of the 4" pipe, the top of the tank is open only to the vent.

And, yes, it does increase the capacity of the waste tank. I also can dump from either side so that adds more capacity.

Anything going into a waste tank is a positive displacement, can't be any other way. High school physics.

I never really inspect it carefully to see if solids go into the tank or stay in the pipe. I'm not that curious!!

I don't know how I could keep the tank drained dry while using it?? I never drain it completely dry anyway, not a very good idea since all the solids never drain completely.
