You guys know where a low mileage Cat C-12 445 hp engine is for sale prefer Texas or surrounding area.
A friend is looking for one to replace his series 50 in his Eagle he will also be interested in C-13 for the right price, he knows the C-12 is a better engine than the C-13 fwiw

Clifford;

There a couple of truck salvage yards in Amarillo off of the I-40 you might give them a call.

Sorry I don't have any #'s for you.

Why not just rebuild the Series 50?  Granted you should run the proper soft engine mounts to keep the engine vibration down.  And the twin counter rotating vibration shafts running off the oil pump have a suggested replacement interval.  The engine other wise is a good, economical engine-just about perfect for RV use.  Most of the bad PR comes from use in transit buses-you can't get any worse abuse on an engine then transit bus use.  There are alot of Series 50's around-if it were me, I'd keep the Series 50.  You're going to have to COMPLETELY redue the engine cradle, air lines, air filter, muffler, bigger cooling, change the electronics for the Caterpillar-just not worth the hassle.  Good Luck, TomC

I don't know of a location, however have been wondering if this type of engine is a candidate for replacing an 8v92 in a '92 MCI 102-C3?  I've seen some information about a C-10 being used as a swap, no technical details.  Has anyone had the experience or know any more about this type of change?

Good luck with your search, it's a good engine.

It is worth it to him Tom he has spent over 12 gs on the engine this year and like he told me he wanted walk up a mountain not crawl and his wife is tired of making the bed from the 50 shaking the bed sheets off     his words not mine.
Cradles are not a problem we found a set in Il  for a factory install for a Eagle and he got a buy

Sounds like he doesn't have the correct engine mounts. I've have been in transits with Series 50's, and yes they do vibrate a bit at idle, but not that much-and I was sitting in the back seat on purpose.  It is always easier to stay with the same engine.  Why not graduate up to a Series 60? Just a few inches longer and uses the same electronics.  Good Luck, TomC

Tom he wants a C-12  he does not like the 50 or 60 series or any Cummins he wants yellow paint and plans on using another Cat lover to install it for him.

Can I replace a L10 with M11 just by R&R nothing else to do.

I've got one, I've got one...right here in California! Oh, Texas huh? Well anyway...I have a 1999 C-12 about 430hp with Jake, truck jacknifed and is crunched up but engine is fine...had an in-frame at the local Cat house about 300,000 miles ago ($12,000) and is still in the truck, starts right up. It is a 9NS engine, I think it has the 40 pin

I'm here to tell ya, if I don't sell the engine I would be mighty interested in finding a coach that needs a transplant...this is a great engine, much better than the three C-13s I own.

If you are interested, give me a call (five three zero) 524-five five two seven (cell) I'll be on the road Thursday so call anytime.

DaveG

Hey, still here!

It would be nice to know which of the more popular coaches (Eagle and MCI) can readily accomodate the C-12.

Dave, I have 2 to check out in Phoenix and 2 in Houston I found the Eagle cradle for the C-12. I am hoping one of the 2 in Houston will work.I am concerned about the seller in Houston he warranties all his engines but Cat?.
Late model 15 Eagles will accept the C12,S60 and Cummins with no problems but the 05,10 and early 15 requires raising the floor.
With the model 20 your stuck with 6v92 unless you rebuild the engine compartment.
I have your # and will stay in touch if one doesn't work out.
FWIW I have a friend that has a C-15 in his Eagle monster of a engine for a bus   thanks
