Got a tire leak

I know this will sound silly, but I have a leak in an outer dually. I can drive it to any tire shop. I've haven't had one before and I'm wondering what I should expect to get it repaired? I just want to make sure I don't get ripped off. Thanks!

Why don't you call a couple big tire places or truckstops and ask them first? I'd expect about $20-$30

In today's market, I'd expect about $40-$60. But then again, I do my own. The last (and only) time I had to have a tire fixed on the road, was in 1999, and it cost me about $30.

I had one fixed 2 weeks ago at Petro cost me 45.00 for the outside dual sign said 50.00 for inside

Might depend where the leak is. Tread or valve stem can be repaired easily. If the leak is in the sidewall, might be a different story. Jack

Give the Windmill Truckstop a shout. They are in Diamondale on I69 at about exit 70 (I think) near I96. I haven't been up that way in a while but they used to have a truck shop that will take care of you. Good Luck.

I wish they were still there. They went out early this summer. It was nice to have the scales and oil changes so close to my house. I called the Goodyear on Creyts and I have a quote for 42.00. Sounds right in line with everyone's advice. I kinda doubt that it's a sidewall issue, much more likely a puncture. It's been leaking for a while and I suspect my trip to Duluth made it worse. I'll know later today when my son finally wakes up

Check that the valve core is not loose in the valve.

Check that the valve is not loose in the wheel, they do work loose.

If it is a two part valve make sure the outer part is not loose.

My guess is that it is the core, I've had more failed valve cores in the past two years than I've had the past 40 years!! Almost every one that failed was made with a red colored plastic/rubber sealing ring.

All fixed. Looks like the valve stem extension (which I did check in advance) was the culprit. No rim or tread leaks, no sidewall damage. As the tire guy pulled it off, he could bump the extension and it would leak between the nut and the primary stem. With the stainless steel wheel cover and centramatic balancers, you pretty much HAVE to put those darn things on. No way otherwise to get to the stems. Only ran $22 for my learning experience.
