6v92 puking oil. advice needed

Short version.  Took bus to reputable mechanic for LOF. When I got her home ( 15 miles )  and noticed some spots on the rear and figured he was.messy.  We loaded up and made it about 100 miles and noted she'd puked over 1 gallon of brand new Dello 100. 

I can't locate the leak but she puddled a 5 inch circle while parking. I'm in Tyler Tx heading to Beaumont.  Any reliable mechanics in this neck of the woods?  Or sage advice?

Almost sounds like your mechanic overfilled it.  Check the oil level.  Good Luck, TomC

It does sound like an overfill though, as Tom said.

When I got her home I checked.oil and.I was a about half a gallon over. So I wasn't too upset. I figured it was overcill. Now I'm bout a hundred miles further and  gallon low.  She usually burns a gallon every 2000 miles.

I've got 5 gallons in a bay so I guess I've got a.500 mile radius.

maybe a oil filter leaking I have seen where guys install the transmission filter on the engine also they fit but leak.
Upside for you Matt is leaking so much should be easy to find I know Dallas can sniff it out

Impressive, Clifford.

You keep it up, ya hear?!? I have known a lot of guys, your age, that just kick back and vegetate. Next thing you know they are six feet under. I think that the more active you stay (like you are), the longer you live. Of course, there is nothing real scientific about that, but I just have a hunch about it.

Good for you, Clifford, and man are we going to miss you. I sure hope you stay around, because your advice has proved invaluable!

I get up at 5:15 every morning, and it is good. Sure lengthens my day a lot.

If it didn't leak before...there has only been one change and that is the oil change..filter correct,filter tight,oil plug tight,oil fill cap back on? This problem seems human error....check oil 20 minutes after shut down..good luck hope it is a simple fix. Have had a filter start leaking after running 6 months after oil change (loose ) I did the oil change !!

Did the mechanic use straight 4o weight Delo?? I have a buddy who was leaking like a sieve after putting 15/40 in his 6v92. It's just now starting to get normal again.

Said he used Delo 100 it only comes in a single weight

I am betting on the filter.  My manual states very specifically that the filter must be wrench tightened (opposite of my automotive experience).  Maybe he only spun it down and got side tracked before wrench tightening it.

Thanks for the advise, and offers. There is a Frieghtliner (ok freighter) place about 10 miles up the road I'll see if they cam remedy this issue.  I'll let ya know.

I'm betting that it was just over filled and that nothing else is wrong.  Don't add any oil unless it gets well below the gallon mark.  Get the engined cleaned up and check it again after a few hundred miles.

I wouldn't count on much help from the Freightliner shop.  When you get there, ask if they have any mechanics over sixty years old.  That's the guy you want.

BTW, with any diesel I have ever owned, including my twenty year old Dodge, I always provide my own oil in the right quantity and watch while they work.  If that's not acceptable to the shop, I move on.
