plastic for boxes

I would like to build some plastic drawers for storage under couches and dinette.
I don't know what plastic would be best.
Cost wise and durability.
Poly welded or a glued resin type.

any experience or ideas.

Use plastic coke crates.

Hi John, Our storage is built into the underside of the furniture as part of the structure so I can't help you there. However, in our bays I use a wide assortment of premade poly tubs for storage. They stack nice and they come in so many sizes today it's unreal. Plus the cost has come down substantially in the last few years. Maybe you can find the size you need already made or consider fabbing with wood and sealing with a good paint. Sorry if I'm not much help, Will

I have built quite a few odds and ends boxes and covers and such out of the leftover plastic I had from building my tanks. It works well, but it's very expensive.

I recommend just building them out of plywood. It's cheaper and easier to work with.

Of course, the best solution is to go to the storage store and find some ready made ones that will fit your needs. They make some thin ones that slip under a bet to store
christmas wrapping rolls and such. Try Ikea if you have one close by. I wandered through there one day and was surprised to see how many different plastic boxes they have
available, and prices seemed quite reasonable.

I think that I would be better off building something because my boxes, drawers will hold the modesty panels for the couches and dinette.
Right now I just have the panel held on with Velcro and just throw everything under there then when I need something I just stand on my head or lay on the floor to see what is where.
I have built all my cabinets out of square steel tubing and frp so I am not too much into building stuff out of beaver food!
May be I can find the right size plastic bins and just keep the velcro covers as a separate piece.

Building with your own plastic drawers is really difficult task. It is better if you can go to a plastic molding company. They can make plastic drawers that will fit your needs.

My wife's art school is always needing plastic boxes for display plinths and such, and she just called up the local plastic distributor and asked "who makes these".  Answer - they do, dead cheap depending on the material, they cut them, form them, bend them up, glue them together, whatever is needed.  So try calling a plastic distributor.  They can advise on the correct material, thickness, construction methods, etc.

Before you get carried away go to WalMart and look at their extensive collection of plastic bins, many of which will stack securely.

There are some sliding drawer models, I use one in my genset bay to hold coiled elect cords.

The variety is endless.

WM's variety is amazing and I'm sure other big stores have a bunch also.
