My 871T has 80 injectors in it now. It runs like the wind, Pulls good on hills ,Doesn't smoke as long as the RPM are up.  But I think that I could get better MPG with 70 or 65 injectors. Question were can I get a set at a resonable price. I now get between 5 and 5.5 MPG. I would like to get over 6 or close to 7. At over $600 a set it would take a lot of driving to make it pay. Fred

Instead of paying for smaller injectors, just try staying out of the throttle on hills.  Where ever your foot is on the throttle when you hit a hill, don't move down as you go up the hill and allow the bus to slow down.  Then on the down hill allow the momentum, not the engine, to get you back up to speed.  And-keep your speed no faster then 60mph.  I think you'll get a much better return on your money instead of buying smaller injectors-keeping you from using that horsepower when you truly need it.
I went over a pass this summer with some 24% grades, and even with it turbo'd got down to 10mph in some places.  Glad I had the horsepower.  Good Luck, TomC

Tom,

What road were you on that had 24% grade?

God bless,

fred;  Ste your injectors down to 1.460 They are most likley at 1.484 now That will help some with mpg also you probably
have a TV7101 torbo with a 1.39 hot housing, change the HH to a 1.23 and that will help at the mid range rpm so you dont have to push the throttle so hard.

Hope this helps

Thanks Don that may be my best opsion. The motor dosen't use any or very little oil in over 4000 miles. It has the big tubo that is the same as on the 92 motors. and will run well over 80 as the gove is set at 2500. It is hard to drive under 70 and will creap up to 80 if I don't keep a close eye on it. but I sure would like to get over 6 MPG.There is no smoke if the RPMs are over 1500 in high gear Fred

John- From 395 in California, I took 89 (monitor pass) west over the mountain down to highway 4 west to Angles Camp.  Had a big sign up that vehicles over 25ft not recommended with 24% grades (short but they were there).  I thought-how bad can it be-it is a state highway.  It was bad-good pavement, but was no center line with the highway about a lane and a half wide.  Got flipped off a few times (mostly by bikers-almost had one as a hood ornament).  Would NOT recommend it in a bus-but would be a blast in a small sports car.  It was a beautiful drive, albeit a white knuckle drive with my wife helping with navigating.  Good Luck, TomC
