Two Axle Eagle?

I'm helping a friend find an Eagle. He came across one that is a 40 footer with two axles; four bay doors. Is this a common configuration? Is it an Eagle model 12? I saw some posts about a 12 in the archives. The current owner knows nothing about the bus other than they drive it and runs well. We might go look at it but I'm wondering if anybody (luvrbus you out there?) knows what the story is on this model. We have asked the owner to find the model number plate up front in the headliner but have not heard back.

Fred, I doubt if it is a model 12 not 2 many of those around give us a year model it is probably a 10 S 96 inches wide or or model 15 102 wide

The Eagle Model 10S (Suburban) was a two axle coach built in the early eighties. I also understand that some converters, Caldwell Brothers in particular, removed the tag on some entertainers. I think a 10S would make a great conversion if you watched the weight and stay away from the granite and marble.

I have had my 10S since March of 1999. I really like it since I don't have to contend with bogie tires, alignment, weight adjustments and tires scrubbing on turns. On mine I just keep it level. I am not building a heavy conversion and right now weight with full fuel 29,500 pounds at mostly converted. Factory plate has GVWR at 36,700, 12,200 front and 24,500 rear. You get an extra bay to play with as well. Good luck with the bus!!

Fred,Eagle also had the model 04 but it was 37 ft long with air bags it was a good bus the drawback to it was the V653 engine and parts windshield are not available for it any longer

Mine is a 10-S and it is working for me, you also have an added bonus, a lot of turnpikes consider it a car (counting axles) and you get a break from time to time on the tolls.

We get a break on the tolls now and then, going down to BK's rally we got hit for 2 bucks an axle on the toll booth north of rockford but on the way back it was only a buck an axle, kinda depends on the operator.

Last time I went on Turner Turnpike from Tulsa to OKC 100 miles cost me 10 bucks with the toad

Mine still has the Two Axle sticker on the toll window. Guess the operator wanted to be sure he paid the correct toll.

I have noticed an eagle sitting in the parking lot of a main street bar in Dresser Wisconsin (about 45 minute Northeast of the cities) that looks good. I could find out if it's for sale at my class reunion later this month. Just a thought.

Definitely check that one out when you are there. Although my buddy is getting pretty serious about the 10S he found in Alabama. We're just trying to better understand the rust issues on that bus and what they mean to overall longevity.

Yes. I believe it is $4.50 for an automobile now, which is kind of hard on the old pocket book, I wonder what the Kansas Turnpike is now? Last time I went up that way, it cost me about $9 if memory serves me right. I told the girl, "Hey, I don't want to buy this thing, I just want to use it."

The earliest Model 10S's went to Central New York Transit Authority in 1983, most went to Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority in 1984 & 1985. A couple went to someone else.

Let us know what the VIN# is when you get there.
