FWIW when you measure the length of the spring brake do you guys measure with the caging bolt applied.  I only ask as that ads another 2-3" to the length.  I guess in a pinch you could bypass the caging bolt and loosen the slack and pull the pin if there was a problem, but in my case during installation (4104) the bolts helped line up and adjust stuff. Still I only have about 3/4" of clearance with the bolt applied

Sorry luvrbus, I didn't come through properly, I was suggesting the Instructor has overstepped what it was Bendix was paying him to do, not that I didn't believe you!!!!

I would bet that he did not understand how DD3 works, and discounts them as crap to cover up his inability to say the most important three little words: "I don't know", not an uncommon strategy by insecure/ignorant instructors in either the transportation business, or any other, where "qualifications" come too easily.

A good instructor's job is to inform, not pass on their personal bias or ignorance.
Unfortunately, if feeding one's ego needs takes precedence over helping the trainees' to learn and arrive at their own conclusions....

Trainees have little idea they are being led astray.

happy coaching!
