You guys better read the delo 400 40w specs on the jug states very plain meets DDC and MTU 1 and 2 specs the 15/40  Delo 400 doesn't.All C rated oil has less than 1% ash per EPA

good luck

Clifford I don't have a jug to read. And I ain't try'n to argue with you, I just know that I was told many moons ago (back when I was working hurricane KATRINA relief I think) that the 100 met the specs, and the 400 didn't, and of course the 400 was all I could find at the moment! (I did buy and use 2 cases of the 400 but have been insistant on the 100 since then.

Of course it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong! I remember once when I thought I was wrong, but it turned out I was mistaken! ;D

Sorry Clifford, I have to disagree with you on this one.

Delo-400 40 has a Sulfated Ash content of 1.35%; DDC specs for the 2-strokes required less than 1%, so Delo-400 does not meet the spec.

(Scroll down to the first "Delo 400" entry and click it to get the product data sheet for the single-weights, in PDF format.  I can't post a direct link here, as they are all Javascript.  Click the link on the left, not the MSDS link on the right)

Delo-400 used to meet the specs several years ago, but they changed the formula.  Note that right in the spec sheet for the Delo-400 single weight, it says "(4-stroke)" next to Detroit Diesel under the "meets manufacturers specs" section.

FWIW.

Thanks, Clifford.

Apparently, they have not yet got around to updating the data sheet on their own web site.  Go figure.

That said, I would be careful of any found on a store shelf, if they just changed it less than a year ago.  Sometimes this stuff sits on the shelf or in the warehouse at least that long.

What is the CF-2 rating? ???

This is part of the rating system promulgated by the American Petroleum Institute (API).  Most engine manufacturers will stipulate that oil must meet one or more API designations.

"C" is for diesel engines, whereas "S" is for gas engines.  The "F" is the revision or generation of the spec;  CE was an earlier spec than CF, and CG, CH, CI, etc. are later ones.  They try to be "backwards compatible," but some changes to the formulation end up being incompatible with older engines, so it is important to make sure the oil you buy is specifically listed to the API designation you need.

"-2" means 2-stroke, whereas "-4" means 4-stroke.

It is easy to find 4-stroke oil to the latest spec, such as CI-4.  It is much harder to find CF-2, which is the specific rating DDC requires for its 2-strokes.  Most CF-2 is also rated CI-4, and may also carry SJ-4  and other ratings for gas engines.

Well, went to Cheyenne Napa around noon -- no oil.  They sent them 15-40.  Should be there this afternoon; will try again tomorrow.

Van, if you want to drop by today, now that I am back home, I can chat any time before 5.  Call my cell first, just in case.  Number on my contact page:
http://ourodyssey.us/contact.html

I'll either be in the bus, basking in the air conditioning, or at the pool.  You can't miss Odyssey -- we're right in the middle by the pool.

Addendum:

If you come by, and you happen to have an old 3.5" floppy disk lying around, could you bring it?  I am in desperate need of a single diskette, and Radio Shack wants $9 for a ten-pack.  No one else even carries them.

I would suggest multiple floppy disk as I always seem to have to go through several to find good one.  I always format them and throw away any that have any bad sectors.

Most floppy disks by now are usually years old and they don't always stand the test of time.
