How to remove BUTYL

What is the secret for removing this stuff.

Someone has had to found the secret chemical to do it the easy way!

This is on a fiberglass tub and tile.

You may want to try a product called Marine Formula made by DeBond. It was designed to remove polysulfide adhesives such as 3M 5200 which are very hard if not impossible to remove without destroying either the item your are trying to remove or the substrate.

The product is pretty expensive but if all else fails, this should do the trick.

When I removed the shower doors from our tub I ended up with some of the finish
and fiberglass pulled.........so

Went and filled with auto bondo, sanded and used some of that 2 part tub refinisher
stuff.

   One can't tell and looks like a new tub.

There is stuff commonly available in DIY stores called 'silicone eater'. I've no idea if it will work on your sealant, but worth a try if you haven't already

As with any chemical on plastic you should try a small area as a test. I have had good luck removing silicone and paint from acrylic using automotive carb and choke cleaners that come in the aerosol cans. Use with plenty of ventilation because of harmful vapors and flamability. Toluene is a good adhesive remover from fiberglass. I have used it on epoxy resins with no problems.

Remember enclosed in a bus you can kill yourself real easy with chemicals.

Try some 3M Adhesive Remover. It is in most parts stores in the paint section.

I used butal calk from Ace Hardware to install caps and sides on my bus, nasty stuf but cleaned up easely with regular automotive cleaning solvant. Goog luck!!
